RM3.40 Soft Fluffy Best Char Siu Bao in Bercham, Ipoh

Char Siu Bao, also known as BBQ pork buns, is a beloved staple in Chinese cuisine and the Chinese community of Dim Sum culture.

When we drove down, Liam wanted to make a stop at Bercham.

The reason was to get hold of one of Ipoh’s best Char Siu Bao in Bercham.

The hidden gem is tucked away in an old housing estate in Bercham, Ipoh.

We called the shop, and luckily we made it before they closed for the day at 3.30 pm.

Their Char Siu Bao looks deceptively ordinary for RM3.40 each.

I wondered if I should get some when Liam ordered 50 frozen Char Siu Bao.

Immediately I ordered five steamed ones that we could snack on.

When I broke the Bao into two, I realized how pillowy soft the dough skin felt – all cottony, airy, and bouncy.

They tasted like what Bao used to taste when I was growing up back home.

The silky white skin contains juicy Char Siu meat or smooth paste.

They were so good I wanted to order 50 pieces too, but alas, I stayed for five days in a hotel in KL and couldn’t access a freezer!

It was like biting into clouds of soft dough.

What sets the Char Siu Bao apart is the delicious filling.

The juicy Char Siu or savory Honey BBQ pork is perfectly seasoned, and the buns are filled with just the suitable filler.

Their Char Siu Bao’s fillings are moist and tender with a wonderfully alluring smoky fragrance.

The mixture of seasonings and spices is perfect without being too sweet or salty.

Each bite is flavorful; combining the soft, fluffy bun and savory filling is divine.

Another great point is that the items are handmade in small batches, ensuring freshness.

While Char Siu Bao is widely available in restaurants and supermarkets, the taste of traditional handmade buns is outstanding.

The old-school flavor of handmade Char Siu Bao comes from —preparing the dough, kneading, slow-roasting the BBQ pork, and cooking the filling.
