Angsana Teluk Bahang scores big points for its unique blend of luxury, serenity with a unique blend of comfort, style, and service.
My first thought of a staycation in Penang is Angsana Teluk Bahang for a solo retreat to tranquillity and writing.
I packed a suitcase.
Yes, I did – my laptop, dresses, a suit, shorts, and sandals for a beach holiday.
My last holiday was precisely 365 days ago when I flew home on the eve of the first lockdown.
I haven’t left Penang since, and for a travel bug.
it was challenging to stay home 24/7/365.
I choose Angsana Teluk Bahang because it is “far away” enough to think I’ve traveled.
My choice of tranquil staycation away from the hustle and bustle.
The Angsana Brand
Managed by the world-renowned Banyan Tree Group (BTG), Angsana has welcomed an endless flow of guests eager to experience its offerings.
This resort, the first of its kind in Malaysia, opened its doors on October 10, 2020, and has since become a vibrant addition to Penang’s hotel landscape.
Nestled on the idyllic Teluk Bahang beach, it provides contemporary rooms and suites featuring modern amenities.
With 250 sea-facing accommodations designed with Peranakan-themed interiors, the resort combines local chic with a fun-filled atmosphere, offering spacious and stylish rooms perfect for couples, families, and groups of friends.
Angsana Teluk Bahang Location
Although Penangites have the mentality that Teluk Bahang is so far away, it’s not too far to go.
Teluk Bahang is a town within George Town’s city in the Malaysian state of Penang (island).
The Teluk Bahang village is located within the Southwest Penang Island District, near the northwestern tip of Penang Island.
Angsana Teluk Bahang Distance to the city centre is 17.3km.
Angsana Teluk Bahang is approximate.
- Penang International Airport – 50 minutes drive
- George Town – 30-minute drive
- Batu Ferringhi – a five-minute drive.
Well, if you remember driving to Mutiara back in the heyday for the disco, well, the Angsana is just next door.
Angsana Teluk Bahang, Penang, the first Angsana brand in Malaysia, is managed by the world-acclaimed Banyan Tree Hotels and Resorts.
The vibrant beachfront resort, which sits on the idyllic Teluk Bahang beach, opened its doors to guests on 10th October 2020 and went off to an excellent start.

The most striking feature is the stand-alone bathtub with a contemporary rounded shape allowing you to rest your head at either end.
Best of all, there are bath salts, which quickly dissolve in warm bath water and are used for everything from stress relief to aches and pains.
- rain shower
- long bath
- Twin washbasins
- WC with bidet
- hairdryer
Lounge Area

Kitchenette
Angsana’s one wall kitchenette has at least an 8 feet countertop with
- Coffee and tea-making facilities
- Minibar Fridge
- Microwave
Best of all, the promotion includes all the items in the fridge for consumption.
I love the long spacious countertop – we use this to charge our appliances, two phones, power bank, and laptop.
Balcony
Angsana Resort offers a private balcony to let you enjoy a beautiful golden hour and serene views of the Teluk Bahang bay.
- With seats
Each Suite has a breathtaking Seaview with contemporary luxuries and the unique charm of Penang’s Peranakan heritage.
You will wake up to a gentle lap of waves and the fantastic views of the Andaman Sea.
Room 1111
We checked in the Kerongsang Wing.
I enjoyed room 1111 on the 11th floor, with a breathtaking view of the sea.
It was a breeze to walk along the open corridor into a contemporary designed Deluxe suite.
I think I have everything I need to live for a week or more.
Safety Measures
Angsana sliding glass doors are fitted with sensors for optimizing the electrical consumption of the rooms.
The Sliding Glass Door Sensor informs the economizer if the access door is open or closed (i.e., locked) and turns off the air-conditioning to minimize energy consumption.
The day we checked, it was blistering hot outside at 32C and a humidity of 67%.
It took some time before the air-conditioning cooled the room.
We realized later that opening the balcony door for the breeze to blow wasn’t helping cool down the room.
Nostalgic Interiors
A Peranakan design aesthetic permeates the property’s interior architecture.
Throughout the resort, I found Peranakan Chinese Porcelain both as display items and in paintings.
These are the antique handcrafted Peranakan Baba Nyonya Kamcheng ceramic food container and porcelain tableware.
The designs were infused with antique hues and vibrant festive wares of the Straits Chinese with Phoenix and Flower designs.
Resort General Manager Mr. Nigel Fisher said, “the resort’s development came about with a vision of drawing inspiration from the rich Penang Peranakan Baba Nyonya heritage.
The architecture and interior design will incorporate vibrant colors and intricate floral with the Straits Eclectic Style’s geometric patterns and pay tribute to Penang’s status as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.”

- Jendela All Day Dining Restaurant
- Chill Lobby Lounge
- Fire & Ice Beach Bar
- No.11 Specialty Restaurant
Jendela All Day Dining Restaurant
Jendela is a spacious contemporary restaurant buzzing with activity during meal times.
The All-Day Dining Restaurant serves an international buffet breakfast spread, featuring local and regional favorites for lunch and dinner.
The specialties range from interactive “Live” food stations and serving counters providing a “Street Food” atmosphere.
I had three meals at Jendela, a vibrant, restaurant with air-conditioned indoor dining and al fresco dining on the deck.
The views are splendid and tranquil.
Tea Time Treats
After check-in, I had a light bite.
The recommendation was an Irresistible Chimichurri Chicken Flatbread.
It was hearty and delicious.
I wouldn’t mind having them again for a leisurely brunch.
Dinner
For dinner, come down early and get the best set to watch the sunset.
During the evenings, be prepared for the mossie (I had a mossie patch handy) to keep the pests away.
We tried several dishes, and they were all delicious.
Tuna Hinava RM 38
Raw ahi tuna slices marinated with fresh lime juice, red chilies, sweet shallots, cilantro served with bitter gourd and candied ginger chips.
Penelope Pussycat loved her raw Tuna and finished that with gusto.
Sate Lilit RM 38
Grilled beef and chicken marinated with lemongrass, ginger, and spices wrapped around lemongrass skewers served with a spicy chili-soya dip.
I had this after my Javanese Massage and loved the Sate Lilit, which was flavourful and very delicious.
Chimichurri Chicken Flatbread RM 38
Fresh basil and parsley herb-marinated baked chicken breast slices topped with capsicums, sauteed sweet onions, confit pineapples, fresh asparagus, tomato ragout, and mozzarella cheese.
As far as pizzas go, we enjoy this version very much.
CKT Our Way RM 45
Our very own take on classic wok-fried flat rice noodles with hot chili paste, duck egg, scallops, prawns, mussels, bean sprouts, and garlic chives.
You can not compare this Char Kway Teow with the street food you find in George Town – as is the CKT is tasty without being too oily.
Nasi Angsana RM 52
Deconstructed fragrant wok-fried rice with smoked turkey, chicken, fresh curry, and basil leaves served with grilled tiger prawns, chicken “Pergedel,” fish crackers, vegetable achar, and a tomato “sambal.”
The fried rice is decent with a lot of condiments.
Tempura Blue Cod RM 72
Crispy deep-fried battered cod served with garlic and thyme buttered potatoes, gochujang mayonnaise, and grilled lemon.
We liked the Cod with the tasty gochujang mayonnaise sauce.
The tempura batter was perfect and not oily.
Cod is nice and flaky with a very mild, milky flavor and slightly sweet taste.
Chillout @ Fire & Ice
Fire & Ice is a fantastic beach bar for fun times at the beachfront.
At night the place feels cozy with blue and red lights.
You can enjoy delicious modern-styled Tiki cocktails, frozen cocktails, sundowners, other beverages with Asian and Western beers.
For food and snacks, there are Penang-inspired specialties hawker skewers for modern casual bar bites.
An excellent venue for gatherings with family and friends.
Buffet Breakfast
In the mornings (7 am onwards), you can take a dip in the pool before breakfast.
In compliance with current RMCO regulations, breakfast is offered in a serviced buffet-style food to ensure physical distancing.
The breakfast items ordered will be served by the resort’s F&B Servers to guests at their tables.
Notable food items that I enjoyed the most are the Nasi Lemak and Apple Crumble.
Malaysian Nasi Lemak
The Nasi Lemak is lemak and fragrant.
The real kicker is that Spicy Sweet Sambal Sotong sauce that pulls everything together beautifully.
Crunchy Fried Kacang and Ikan Bilis and Hard Boiled Egg Slices make this my no. 1 go-to breakfast item.
Penelope Pussycat was surprised I had two serves of rice for breakfast.
When it comes to Nasi Lemak, I can eat it for Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, and Supper.
Apple Crumble
I’m a huge fan of Apple Pie, Apple Crumble, Bread Pudding, and a jug of vanilla custard.
Pancakes
I get pancakes cravings from time to time.
After my IHOP experience, it is darn hard to get those thick, spongy, fluffy American pancakes that are best eaten with warm maple syrup.
I wanted a high stack of three but got three thin crepe-like pancakes instead with lashings of honey.
Until we can travel again – these are the next best thing since I can only make a pancake with a mix.
Other Facilities
Other in-house services and facilities within the resort on complimentary for guests include
- wireless internet connectivity throughout the resort
- laundry
- valet services
