Penang Kitchen – Courtyard by Marriott Penang
SmartDory was invited to experience dining at the newly-opened Penang Kitchen -Courtyard by Marriott Penang, on Macalister Road.
The popularity of a leisure lunch lies in the little things; the essence of an enjoyable hotel is its prompt service and affordable and well-prepared food.
Penang Kitchen Ambiance
SmartDory dined at the hotel’s Penang Kitchen outlet, which was a bright, cheerful environment on the ground floor.
The interesting items are the Enamel Plates, Bowls, Cups, and colorful Tiffin carriers used to serve the food.
Penang Kitchen Cuisine
Penang Kitchen, at Courtyard by Marriot Penang, is a lively and chic all-day dining restaurant.
Savor a medley of mouth-watering creations inspired by the unique blend of local cultures—Malay, Nyonya, Chinese, and Indian cuisines.
What’s more, if you’re a fan of the signature Penang Assam Laksa, you can try the Salmon Laksa here!
Some of Chef Nor Ismail’s signature dishes are
- Chicken Rendang with Ginger Flower
- Ox Tail Soup,
- Lamb Shank Biryani in Clay Pot
and many more items on the menu.
I love the plating of the food, with pretty edible flowers and herbs like Torch Ginger and Daun Pegaga.
Penang Kitchen Chef Nor Ismail’s Recommendations
Chef Nor Ismail was on hand to welcome me and recommend the outlet’s most popular dishes for a decadent lunch.
I knew I was in for a good lunch whenever Chef Nor Ismail was in the house.
I have a penchant for good Malay cuisine, and Nasi Melayu is a meal I often look forward to eating.
Prawn Kerabu Salad
Shredded papaya and mango with fish sauce & chili and garnished with ginger flower.
Wild Ginger Flower Chicken Rendang (RM28)
I remembered telling Chef, surely I can’t eat so much – and I finished my Blue Rice, Chicken Rendang, and Prawn Kerabu Salad with a side order of Fish Crackers.
My resistance to good Malay food is practically ZERO.
Chunky Chicken Satay Pizza (RM28).
On top of my rice set, I also enjoyed a giant Chunky Chicken Satay Pizza (RM28).
The pizza was crusty and topped with chunks of chicken, onions, and cheese.
Blueberry Tart (RM18)
It was a pretty Blueberry Tart with a Vanilla Ice Cream (RM18) ball and Latte for desserts.
So, if you’re in George Town, head over to Penang Kitchen at the newest hotel in town to try their delicious and affordable dining treats at an affordable price point.
Penang Kitchen – Review
The newly opened Luxury Hotel has a simple, modern interior design that is clean, comfortable, and immaculate.
The location is near the old town area, just before the traffic lights at Macalister Road and Anson Road.
The service is attentive, and the friendly F&B Manager, Mr. Selva, makes everyone feel welcome.
The food served is delicious, and the tableware—enamel plates, bowls, and even a tiffin set—is impressive.
Courtyard by Marriott Penang Car Parking
The only hick-up was entering the hotel parking, which was cashless.
I use a Touch ‘n Go smartcard, but since the machine’s location is a little awkward, I need help to touch my card.
The friendly hotel staff was helpful.
There are improvement opportunities, especially the hotel car park, with more visible signage.
The black arrow markings were not visible.
