Potatoes USA Kerabu Salad is by far the most exciting Malaysian recipe to introduce potatoes! Most Asians are used to a diet of rice. Our perception of potatoes is the French fries that come with our franchise burger meal.
Potatoes USA represents 2,500 commercial growers and processors of high-quality potatoes in the United States are ready to change the perception of the humble spud. The recent event held at The Wembley, A St Giles Hotel is a learning event.
Guest and bloggers learned about the humble spud’s nutritional value. They were introduced to four dishes that use the US potatoes.
Potatoes USA promotes five main potato products. These are frozen potato products, dehydrated potato products, fresh table-stock potatoes, fresh chip-stock potatoes and seed potatoes.
Each of these varieties fit into one of seven potato type categories: russet, red, white, yellow, blue/purple, fingerling and petite.
Debunking Myths about USA Potatoes
Our preconceived ideas about potatoes were debunked by Potatoes USA’s dietician Khoo An Jo. She shared facts about a healthy diet. Miss Khoo shared valuable nutritional facts of good complex carbs found in the humble spud.
These are some myths that were dispelled.
All carbs come from rice, bread or noodles.
Carbs come in a variety of forms, including sugars, fiber, and starches.
Good carbs come from beans, legumes, whole grains, fruit and root vegetables (tubers).
Are carbs bad for me?
Whole grains provide fiber, iron, folic acid and B vitamins, all of which are necessary for our overall health.
Fruits, root vegetables, and whole grains have plenty of fiber which can help you feel full while eating fewer calories.
We also learned about portion size and the components of a healthy Malaysian eating plate.
Chef Audee Cooked USA Potatoes in several receipes
Penang Chef Association’s President, Chef Audee’s enthusiasm, and easy banter make learning new recipes fun during the live cooking demonstration.
A lucky participant got into action to learn hands-on by assisting Chef Audee. The aroma of the dishes got everyone hungry to have a taste of the potatoes dishes.

Both Miss Khoo and Chef Audee posed several questions during their sessions. The Q&A Sessions got the crowd energized and motivated to interact. Participants won squeeze balls made in the shape of a big russet potato or Potatoes USA aprons.
Home Cooked Recipe Using USA Potatoes
Chef Audee Cheah’s live cooking demo inspired me to cook my favorite home recipe. I cooked Potatoes in Soy Sauce and Chicken Wings with U.S. Russet Potatoes.
This favorite turned out very well, tasty and delicious. Instead of having rice, the potatoes were a nice solid healthy carb to enjoy.
The potatoes are sweet, soft, and delicious. It really makes a world of difference to cooking with the best ingredients.
