One night, we checked out the Penang Digital Library 24 hours a day. Going for the delicious cakes at Love A Loaf was a good, valid reason, too.
It was about 1:30 am when we pulled up on the highway and noticed the gate closed.
The stillness of the night enveloped us, and the darkness was punctuated only by the occasional passing headlights.
We drove a bit towards the exit and found this open, a small relief in the otherwise silent surroundings.
This setup is part of the security measures designed to control access during the quietest hours of the night.
It’s meant to provide safety and order, accommodating late-night travelers and early morning risers, depending on how you perceive time.
Whether you’re someone ending a long journey or just beginning a new day, the open gate symbolizes a threshold, quietly guiding you toward your destination.
“You don’t have to worry about getting up late,” he teased.
It’s been long since Dory studied for an exam, BUT this doesn’t discount the all-nighters she pulls. Inevitably, with the turf. LOL

I raced up. Good. No one outside. There was a table that was leaving.
It’s so warm in the day to sit outside.
I would sweat bullets and drink my Americano from a paper cup.
I know. In the afternoon, I wished for two things: a proper cup and saucer or a mug and air conditioning. At 2 a.m., it’s nice and cool.
Even the lizards have gone to sleep. Now, if only I could have this.
No Cakes in Penang Digital Library 24 Hours Past Midnight
My heart sank. The cafe is closed.
Bummer, there goes my midnight indulgence of chocolates and cake. Love a Loaf is closed.
No Salted Egg Croissants and Chocolate everything. No coffee!
“You can sit anywhere you want now, Dory,” he teased. I would destroy him over the head. Heartless as usual. Men!
All is Quiet Upstairs at the Penang Digital Library 24 Hours Past Midnight
“Since there’s nothing that would occupy my mind as in the choice of cakes and coffee selection,” I said ruefully.
“What coffee? You only drink Americano. Long Black, remember?” He has this habit of interjecting.
“Ahem, and why do I bring you out at night?” I glared back.
“Body Guard,” he shot back.
We decided to check out the place and crept up the stairs. The Penang Digital Library was quiet, as all useful libraries should be. We read every sign and nodded to each other.
The first floor was quite empty.
A few students are studying in the corners.
Verdict: It’s a nice safe place to study.
We sat at a table, whipped out our devices, and checked some email before calling it a night for supper at the nearby 24 hours McDonald’s.
And Life is perfect!
