Penang Digital Library (Phase 1 & 2) Facilities
Penang Digital Library (Phase 1 & 2) is initiated by the Penang State Government, which provides various gadgets and tools to help students and the public turn their ideas into reality.
Even though there are several public libraries in Penang with physical books, the Penang Digital Library has helped both adult and school-going students to find a quiet place to study.
This fruition of how information is curated and consumed has birthed Penang Digital Library.
In a digitally-driven world, the tech-savvy youngster consumes curated information differently than their forefathers.
Both buildings (Phase 1 and Phase 2) are modern spaces with no physical books.
It offers some similarities to a co-working space where you can use the work desks with Wi-Fi.
COVID-19 Alert: Penang Digital Library, Butterworth Digital Library, and Batu Maung Digital Library will be closed starting 10/5/2021 until further notice following the recent MCO announcement.

The Penang Digital Library (Phase 1)
Penang’s student community is familiar with the Penang Digital Library, which received a favorable response since its opening.
The Penang Digital Library is an initiative by the Penang State Government in collaboration with Keysight Technologies and Eastern & Oriental Berhad (E&O), supported by TIME dotcom.
The social aspect of the collaboration is to bring back connectivity and “human” communications.
Opened in October 2016, 2017, the Penang Digital Library is opened for 24 hours, providing a safe refuge for students to study from night to morning.
With this in mind, the Penang State Government aims to re-engineer structured access to information and knowledge vis-à-vis the setup of Phase 1 & 2 of the Penang Digital Library.
As the digital library does not have any physical books, users can access the 3,000 plus specially curated e-books, reference journals, and e-magazines via iPad.
The Spaces at Phase 1
The Love A Loaf Bakery & Cafe is located on the ground floor.
There are a dining area and a small area for workspaces. Even though it is a shared space, it is possible to find your corner if you go early.
There are desks near the window and against the wall.
Or, if you prefer, you could share the long table in the middle of the space.
The upper floor is clean, spacious, and categorized, with several interconnecting rooms without doors.
If you enjoy lounging around, you will enjoy the amphitheater-like structure where you can sit on the floor.
Every workspace comes with an individual power socket.
Penang Digital Library (Phase 2) – Library in the Park
The impressive addition of Phase 2 cost over RM10.8 million, which restaurants, cafes, digital infrastructure, and information technology.
They locate the new building just opposite the current one.
It comprises two double-story buildings with a comfortable reading space able to accommodate up to 540 users at any one time.
The upper floor offers some meeting rooms, work corners, and cubicles with names like the Reading Zone, Brainstorm Rooms, and Virtual Rooms.
The design is modern with splashes of colors.
The chairs and work desk are at a comfortable height.
If you want some peace without going to cafes or Co-working spaces, you can opt for the Penang Digital Library.
The Penang Digital Library is fully equipped with a comfortable reading space at Mansion Library, a learning, and discussion space, a children’s zone to complete both phases.

What to eat – Bread and Bakes?
The croissandwich and toasty breakfast/ set lunch with different fillings are simple, tasty, and the right choice.
The most tempting is the oven-fresh signature croissants lava series with attractive fillings of Salted, Chocolate Lava, Matcha Green Tea Lava, and even Salted Egg Golden Lava!
I tried the Salted Egg Croissant. The runny salted egg yolk lava is the most popular.
