Located in one of George Town’s first suburbs, right near the Holy Spirit Cathedral and Japanese Garden park, this place is a gem.
It’s the kind of kopitiam where locals drop by every day for breakfast.
It is also their regular mixed rice fix.
I don’t blame them, as the delicious food tastes homemade.

And while the selection is a little smaller on other days, you’re still spoiled for choice.
Prepare to experience home-style cooking at its finest, with dishes that are not just tasty, but also free from MSG and never greasy.

And trust me, every dish packs a punch.
A Mouthwatering Display of Dishes
The stall’s setup is simple, but when you see the trays of food laid out, you won’t even care.
Stainless steel trays of vibrant curries, stir-fries, and more, all lined up like a delicious mosaic.
When I first saw it, I was overwhelmed (in the best way possible).
The key here is to arrive early because once these dishes are out, they go fast!
One of my all-time favorites is the Ikan Keli (catfish) head curry.
Now, don’t be put off by the upside-down fish heads staring back at you—it’s all part of the charm!
The curry is rich, spicy, and absolutely mouthwatering.
There’s also the crispy money bag wantons filled with minced pork.
My personal go-to: the “popcorn-style” black chicken.
It’s cooked in thick soy sauce with a touch of sweetness that keeps me coming back for more.
Lunch for the Win – Tiffin Carriers Ready!
What I love most about Good Corner Kopitiam is how the locals roll in with their tiffin carriers.
It’s like a time-honored tradition.
Everyone’s here to “ta pau” (take away) their lunch to enjoy at home or the office.
Lots of home-style cooked dishes to choose from.

And it makes sense—this is the kind of food you want to savor slowly.
There’s no better feeling than opening up a tiffin filled with Jeffrey’s delicious dishes.
You’re in for a good meal.
I usually go for a mix of a few favorite dishes.
I get some pork, a piece of chicken, and always a veggie dish like stir-fried bitter gourd.
The portions are generous, and the flavors?
Just right.
It’s comforting, home-cooked food without all the fuss.
And did I mention it’s incredibly affordable?
Get There Early!
Here’s a pro tip: go early.
By midday, the best dishes are usually gone, and trust me, you don’t want to miss out.
The business is brisk, and regulars know that if you snooze, you lose—especially when it comes to the Ikan Keli curry.
I’ve arrived late a couple of times, only to find my favorite dishes sold out.
Lesson learned!
There are plump deep-fried “money bag” wantons filled with minced pork.
“Torpedo” fish with their sides split to stuff in the sambal paste and fried.
My favorite is the “popcorn style black chicken cooked in thick black sauce. For my lunch, I had a piece of pork, some chicken, and stir-fried bitter gourd.
When I do get there early, I’m rewarded with a plate full of flavor.
On my last visit, I snagged the last catfish head, paired it with a piece of pork, and some black chicken.
Every bite was heaven.
You can’t beat the taste of that curry soaking into the rice—it’s a flavor explosion.
A True No-Frills Gem
