St. Xavier’s Class of 80 | 82 Celebrate Rocking 55 Reunion
The St. Xavier’s Class of 80 | 82 Celebrate Rocking 55 Reunion at Royale Chulan Penang recently.
The gathering marks the grand reunion of classmates who left their alma mater 38 years ago.
Organizing Committee Chairman Khoo Boo Lim welcomed the Xavierian and former teachers with SXI Corps of Pipes and Drums, marching into the grand ballroom.
The group sang the school anthem, Alma Mater’s Call, with pride, remembering all the words.
Khoo thanked his ad hoc committee, which came together to help in unison.
The old boys’ team got together from school days, each stepping up to fill in the rolls as necessary.
The committee members are Nico Tan, Eddy Xavier, Ong Kean Peng, Kuan Pin Seah, Datuk Ramalingam, Ewe Chor Teik, and Chan Tiek Wor.
In his speech, Khoo read out the words shared on their group’s WhatsApp.
No one in the world is rich enough to repurchase your childhood and youth. Only friends help to create those moments from time to time, at no cost.
Datuk Rama honors teachers.
Lotus Group of restaurants CEO Datuk Ramalingam Pillai paid tribute to the teachers and friends at SXI for making him the person he is today.
SXI created a positive environment for building friendships and not forgetting the guidance and nurture from the teachers.
“When it comes to friends, it is the amount of time you spend with them that the lessons of loyalty and friendship are learned,”
Much to the delight of his teachers, Datuk Rama joked that he still feels like a schoolboy.
This is with the hope that his class teacher Miss Wong would remain young.
Friendship and Love Always in the Hearts
The Girls’ School across the Road
St. Xavier’s Institution may be just a stone’s throw away from Convent Light Street; it was ironic to note that none of the boys ever stepped into the school.
Cheah Tek Wor remarked that it was indeed ironic that he only got to view the photographs of CLS’s buildings in this blog recently.
“From the photos, the school buildings and compound appear to have rich European influenced architecture, and the construction was beautiful,” he said.
6th Form Girls
When the girls joined 6th Form, the St. Xavier’s boys were happy to make new friends from Convent Light Street (CLS) and Penang Chinese Girl High School (PCGHS).
As with Nature, soon, love blossomed.
Some of the 6th form girls married their SXI sweethearts.
Celebrate Rocking 55 Reunion
Five girls from Penang Chinese Girl High School (PCGHS) and 14 girls from Convent Light Street (CLS) girls attended the grand occasion.
Khoo Boo Lim roped in his wife Goh Guok Hwa (CLS), his children Krystal and Bryan to help with the event.
Khoo sums up the half-decade of a firm and lasting friendship with this quote.
“When it comes to friends, it’s not how much time you spend with them; it is how you spend it.”
