Roots Dessert Cafe officially opened its doors at Jalan Pintal Tali (Rope Walk) right in the heart of George Town, Penang.
And what a celebration it was.
This wasn’t your typical cafe launch.
It was loud—in all the best ways.
Firecrackers cracked, drums pounded, and the air buzzed with music, laughter, and a whole lot of heart.
A true Muhibbah moment.
Culture, community, and joy, all wrapped into one unforgettable day.
Roots Dessert Cafe Grand Opening
All I can say is—the owners really got the whole community involved.
Full of Heart and Harmony
The event carried a strong Muhibbah spirit.
That beautiful mix of unity, respect, and togetherness across cultures.
Guests came from all walks of life.
Neighbouring businesses showed up.
Even a few curious tourists joined in.
Everyone came not just to see a new cafe.
They all wanted to be part of something that already felt deeply rooted in the community.
(Yes, pun totally intended.)
And the atmosphere? Electric.
You didn’t just step into a cafe—you stepped into a full-blown cultural celebration.
Lion Dance, Dhol Beats and Nafiri Echoes
The celebration roared to life with the thunder of drums and the snap of cymbals.
A pair of bright red lions burst onto the scene, twisting and bouncing in time with the rhythm.
Their movements were bold, playful, and full of energy—an unmistakable sign of good luck.
The Chinese lion dance was just the beginning.
Next came the Indian dhol drummers.
Their double-sided drums pounded out a deep, rolling beat that filled the space and echoed down the street.
Heads started bobbing.
Feet tapped instinctively.
You could feel the rhythm in your chest.
The lions responded, spinning and bouncing along with the rising tempo.
Somehow, the energy kept building.
Then, in a spontaneous burst of joy, Leo—one of the co-owners, jumped right into the dance.
No hesitation. Just pure, unfiltered fun.
Phones flew up.
People clapped and cheered.
For a moment, it didn’t feel like a performance.
It felt like celebration, like community.

Just when you thought the celebration had reached its peak, a deep, regal note cut through the air.
The traditional Malay nafiri rang out—long, clear, and full of presence.
Played by a musician in full traditional dress, its trumpet-like call brought a hush over the crowd.
A vibrant Muhibbah moment—Chinese lion dance, Indian dhol beats, and the call of the Malay nafiri light up the celebration at Roots Dessert Cafe.
Roots Dessert Cafe welcomes everyone with a warm signboard that reads “Mesra Muslim, Mesra Semua”—highlighting inclusivity friendly dining.
A shared table, full plates, and even fuller hearts—at Roots Dessert Cafe, the community that eats together truly stays together.
It grounded the whole experience, adding ceremony and a deep sense of cultural pride.
Three cultures. Three rhythms. One unforgettable moment.
Together, these traditions didn’t just entertain.
They pulsed through the crowd like a shared heartbeat.
A true Muhibbah moment, right in the heart of George Town.
Buffet Highlights
From Signature Sweets to Hot Kitchen Hits
No grand opening is complete without food.
Roots definitely understood the assignment.
The buffet was a sweet lover’s dream!
Plates stacked with their famous Watermelon Cake, fudgy Brownies, and Cupcakes.
All these vanished almost as quickly as they appeared.
But Roots isn’t just about desserts anymore.
With their brand-new hot kitchen now in action, things have gotten a whole lot more savory.
Think pastas, crisp salads, and inventive sides that easily hold their own next to the sweets.
The standout?
Smoked Duck Carbonara. Creamy, smoky, with just the right bite of saltiness—it hit every note.
A solid 10/10.
Comfort food, but with a little drama.
Definitely something you’ll want to come back for.
Catering by Roots Dessert Cafe—pretty cakes, delicious hot savoury items, and a whole lot of love on every plate.
