“It’s in the back lane. You want to go?” the cat purred.
I’m game for new coffee places.
Since my trip to Hoi An, finding interesting coffee bars in the maze of back lanes and alleys became normal.
The new cafe in the heart of George Town might be your cuppa of brew – COFFEE is my go-to drink.
Drinking coffee regularly can lead to this super coveted health benefit.
It was the eve of another extended RMCO, and we wanted to hang out for a decent brew before retreating home to our Nescafe Gold.
It’s been a bummer of a year.
Look out for the orange corner building at the end of Jalan Nagor/ Jalan Hutton – the entrance of Kin Coffee Bar Hidden Cafe is the modern-looking extension.

So finding this petite Instagram babe’s hideout gem was well worth it.
The cafe is the second outlet.
The original Kin Coffeebar started in Bukit Mertajam.
WE don’t know how long before we get to travel again.
The outlet’s entrance is WELL from a back lane!
It’s more of a side lane as the back of the row of shophouses faces the side of another row at right angles.
As the cafe is built front to back. I didn’t get to check out the front of the shop on Lorong Hutton.
The toilet (spotless on the left) is the first thing that greets you before you enter.

The cafe’s concept is simple enough.
Today, we ran into a mural of Lee Kuan Yew carrying his son, the Prime Minister of Singapore, Lee Hsien Loong.

It reminded me of old times when I was a child and flowing my father to Hai Onn Restaurant to share a cuppa of Kopi O.
My father would order a cuppa and spill a little coffee on the saucer for me.
Drinking coffee may seem somehow wrong NOW.
A child enjoying an adult’s habit was the norm back in the 60s and 70s.

Kin Coffee Bar Drinks Menu
The menu is A4 size with cake options and several beverages.
If you’re looking for a hot menu, there is none, as there is no kitchen.
I fancied tomatoey Shakshuka with eggs poached on top and some fluffy souffle pancakes.
It was one of those lazy days.
dirty RM13
I chose the dirty coffee (coffee + milk <no ice>) sounds very good.
It was served in a snifter called brandy glass, a short-stemmed stubby glass whose vessel has a wide bottom and a relatively narrow top.
Did I like it?
Yes, the coffee is smooth and nice – for someone who drinks Nescafe Gold at home, seriously, I’m no connoisseur.

Penelope had the latte, which she described as smooth with a kick.
Last I saw, she was chilling nicely and did not fall off her perch on the stool chair.
There wasn’t a cake that day, or we were too full to order.
All I remembered was waiting for Penelope as she stood in a Giant queue – it was 40 strong.
I hid in Guardian pharmacy and bought more toiletries.
Anything to stay away from long, long queues.

There are three types of specialty cakes available, but the cakes didn’t arrive yet on the day we went.

Kin Coffee Bar Bukit Mertajam
Kin Coffee Bar’s first outlet was in Bukit Mertajam.
The cafe recently opened its second outlet here at Jalan Hutton.
Simplicity is the concept here; the menu comes with three cake options and several beverages.
The new spot boasts plenty of natural sunlight from the air-well.
When it rains or gets very hot and bright, the crew will run close to the top with motorized awnings.
It is nice to keep the full double story height, keeping the whole place airy and pleasant.
If you want to take some photos here, you get lovely lighting that lends a soft edge to your photos.
The entrance is hidden – you enter from the back lane/ side lane.

We sat at the bar, and the playlist was pretty lovely.
Since I’m a converted fan of singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran – which of course, I mispronounced as Sheraton and sent Penelope into a titter.
