Check out AirAsia Travel Advisory if you plan a domestic trip to Malaysia.
Malaysians are pleased to travel after months of staying at home without socializing.
However, it is good to remember the SOPs even after double vaccination.
If you’re planning a trip with AirAsia, read on to learn the airline’s protocols for Travel Advisory.
Stringent health and hygiene protocols are in place throughout your journey with AirAsia, ensuring a pleasant and safe flight.
Health protocols start from on-ground at the terminal, ramp, and cargo areas as onboard your flight with various technological innovations and improvements to ensure that you travel easily and hassle-free.
COVID-19 Update:
1. All AirAsia guests must self-check-in online via the AirAsia Super App or the website.
2. Counter check-ins are only available for guests with reduced mobility, those traveling with an infant (under 24 months), and those 16 and under traveling alone.
According to AirAsia, “Flying is the safest mode of transportation, not only due to the comprehensive safety measures that the airline undertakes but also because the built-in features of the aircraft itself, such as its cabin air filtration system and the vertical downward air circulation inside the cabin, further prohibit the risk of infection during flying.
Studies conducted by international aviation agencies have proven that the risk of inflight infection is almost zero.”
Before traveling, all guests are advised to adhere to the following critical travel advisory:
Ensure that you (and your family) are eligible to travel.
Please check any travel restrictions or special requirements for travel to Langkawi and other destinations, including health documents such as COVID-19 negative test certificate/result and full vaccination certificate.
You are also required to be fully vaccinated, have passed the vaccination maturity period, and be classified as “Low Risk” or “Casual Contact with No Symptoms” status under MySejahtera.
These requirements may change occasionally, so we advise you to check with the authorities for the latest updates.
AirAsia Travel Advisory COVID-19 tests
All adult guests and children aged seven and above are required to undergo COVID-19 tests before departure.
You can opt for the RT-PCR or RTK-Antigen test at any health facilities or private labs within 48 hours before departure
OR
use a self-test kit and take it to the airport to undergo the test at the screening area provided
OR
purchase the self-test kits at the screening area at the airport. You are required to bring your results to the airport before departure.
Children below six years of age are only required to undergo symptom screenings.
They must be with their parents or caretakers who are fully vaccinated, not a positive case or close contact with positive cases.
Mask On at all times
Wear a face mask before, during, and after the flight: All AirAsia guests must wear a face mask at all times—at the airport during check-in and baggage collection and, more importantly, during the flight.
Please be advised that wearing a face mask with an open valve is not permitted onboard AirAsia flights; it must be the regular 3-ply face mask.
You may do double-masking for better protection if you wish.
Mandatory Self Check-in
Self Check-in is mandatory: to minimize physical contact and the crowd at the terminal, all guests must self-check-in online via the AirAsia Super App or website.
You are required to upload relevant travel documents (e.g., a COVID-19 negative test certificate and/or vaccination certificate) for real-time verification.
Counter check-in will only be available for guests with reduced mobility, guests traveling with an infant (under 24 months), and young guests traveling alone.
Early Arrival
Arrive early at the airport: Guests are encouraged to arrive, preferably 4 hours before departure, to allow enough time for all the necessary processes to take place.
To ensure that the highest safety and hygiene standards are maintained at all times, AirAsia has also implemented the following additional safety measures:
On-ground:
AirAsia Super App: The Self Check-in feature on the AirAsia Super App now incorporates data from healthcare providers to help our guests fulfill the travel requirements related to COVID-19 and upload test results, certificates, and/or vaccination status from the comfort of their homes.
The AI-based digital system can also verify a guest’s vaccination certificate from MySejahtera (during self-check-in for Malaysian residents). Guests may also use the website to check in.
Contactless Kiosks
Contactless kiosks: All AirAsia check-in kiosks at the airports have been upgraded with a contactless system that allows guests to print out their baggage tags without touching the kiosk screen.
Contactless payment option
Contactless payment option: AirAsia service counters at airports in Malaysia are powered by a contactless payment facility that accepts digital payment using e-wallet, online banking, and credit/debit card transactions.
Passenger Reconciliation System
Passenger Reconciliation System (PRS): this was introduced to ensure reduced physical handling of boarding passes by Aviation Security (AVSEC) personnel at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (klia2).
The PRS will be progressively expanded to other airports in Malaysia by Malaysia Airports.
Staggered boarding policy
Staggered boarding policy: To benefit our guests and ensure their safety, boarding will begin with guests seated at the back of the aircraft.
This means guests in Zone 2 (sitting at the back) will board first, followed by Zone 3 (mid-area), and finally, Zone 1 (seated in front/hot seats).
This will ensure a smooth flow during boarding and minimize contact amongst guests as well as the crew.
In-flight:
High-Efficiency Particulate Arrestors (HEPA) Filters
High-Efficiency Particulate Arrestors (HEPA) Filters: the cabin air constantly flows from the aircraft ceiling to the floor before it is suctioned into a high-performance filter commonly used in hospital operation theatres.
All our aircraft are equipped with powerful HEPA filters that remove 99.99% of dust particles and airborne contaminants, including viruses and bacteria.
The cabin air is completely refreshed every three minutes to ensure the highest possible air quality throughout your flight.
Fully-vaccinated cabin crew
Fully-vaccinated cabin crew: all AirAsia flights will be operated only by fully-vaccinated pilots and cabin crew.
Only fully-vaccinated ground operations staff will operate at the terminal and baggage handling service.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): All AirAsia pilots, cabin crew, guest services, and ground handlers will wear PPE on the ground and throughout the flight, including face masks and gloves.
In addition, all cabin crew are well trained to assist with any medical situation in flight, including identifying and isolating anyone on board who may be unwell.
AirAsia WiFi: now, you can browse the digital version of the Santan menu, Duty-Free catalog, travel magazines, and a vast collection of entertainment content for free using your device.
Staying connected throughout the journey with our high-speed Internet services can give your family and friends peace of mind.
You can also access the AirAsia Super App services through the AirAsia WiFi portal for a safer, cashless, and digitized in-flight experience.
Meals Onboard
Meals are produced and packaged hygienically: all meals onboard follow strict food safety requirements before serving.
Aircraft deep cleaning
Aircraft deep cleaning: All our aircraft are cleaned and sanitized after each flight, and during every night stop, they undergo a thorough 2-hour deep cleaning process in compliance with instructions from health authorities so you can travel with peace of mind.
With the above AirAsia Travel Advisory, we wish all Malaysian travelers a smooth and safe flight.
