2F Coffee Penang is one of those places you won’t notice if you are driving by.
It takes a local to bring you to this dreamy independent café.
If you like a light, mild Coffee, this is the perfect hideaway.
Goh recommended the place and brought me there once, but it was closed on a Monday.
One blistering hot Saturday afternoon, I suggested we try a café in Penang’s southwest district.
The afternoon crawl to George Town was energy-sapping in the heat, so we thought we would chill until 5 p.m. before heading toward the northeast district.

Where to find 2F+ Coffee?
2F Coffee Penang is at the busy junction Golden Triangle T-junction, Relau, Bayan Lepas, Penang.
This is the busiest junction in the southwest district of the island.
The locals call the Relau traffic lights the “always jam,” which is true.
With the new developments mushrooming up, it’s almost impossible to find parking at the front.
If you’re determined to go (which I think you should), try parking a little away and walking.
2F+ Coffee Ambiance
Most city dwellers who live in a high rise will miss the charm of a half-brick, wooden house.
2F Coffee is a typical vintage old wooden house in a small town with a bold renovation.
They remove the upper floor and rafters to achieve a double-height ceiling.
The café uses metal cladding at the upper levels.
With proper insulation, glass and track lighting let in natural light without heating up during the afternoons.
The interior is an eclectic mix of terracotta tiles and polished grey floors.
You see the mish-mash of press steel, cane, wooden chairs, and sturdy wooden dining tables blended well.
These little artisan touches are a reminiscence of interiors in the 90s.
It reminds me of an artsy, cozy Taiwanese café, which you should try not just 7-Elevens!
What’s the Menu Like at 2F+ Coffee?
Not everyone appreciates a strong cuppa that makes you grow hair on your chest.
The Coffee is lighter and suitable for those who love lighter Coffee.
An Americano or two is great for me.
Food-wise the café serves Western breakfasts and croissants.
It’s a perfect café for brunch or teas and all the in-between odd-hour meals.
We ordered eggs and love presenting mushrooms, cheese, and eggs baked in Toast Cups.
I’ve forgotten how good these can taste.
I remember the best-baked eggs (Eggs en Cocotte) in Yeast Boulangerie – Bistro, Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur.
This little cafe serves a proper French menu for Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner.
Here’s a simple 2F+ Coffee recipe you can make at home!
Toast Cups are a delicious, pure genius all-in-one breakfast.
Just one muffin tin is needed to create perfect single-serving portions for a party of six.
Flatten a bread slice with a glass bottle.
Trim the crusts off the bread.
Lightly brush both sides of bread slices with melted butter.
Diagonally cut each bread slice in half and make a cup in the muffin tin.
Bake in an oven at 375° for 5 minutes or until bread is slightly firm.
Remove the pan from the oven.
You’re the BOSS of your toast cup, and you decide the ingredients that go into each.
A sprinkle of two shredded cheese, crispy bacon, and some halved cherry tomatoes work for me.
Knock an egg and sprinkle evenly with salt and pepper.
Bake the eggs until the whites are set.
The yolks are still runny at this point.
You determine the desired degree of doneness.
Sprinkle with extra crispy bacon and chives.
I sometimes fancy Red Pasta.
It’s a very tomatoey pasta, slightly on the sweeter side and carb-loaded. Did we like the sugary version?
A resounding YES.
2F+ Coffee Review
For an independent café that’s staCoffeene, 2F Coffee is strong on concept and just the place that grows on you.
The locals around the area fall in love with the place.
We see young people chilling and studying quietly in the little corner, reading books.
It’s unusual to see them not absorbed in their devices.
The adults speak to each other have conversations.
No one took selfies except for us.
Do drop by. It’s worth the drive there on the way to the Penang International Airport or before you Explore George Town.
While you’re at 2F+ Coffee, check out the nearby Choo Char Restaurants.
There are two Zhu Char restaurants at the Tua Pek Kong temple across the road from PISA, where you can have decent and delicious family-style dinners.
The fish head noodle stall has very fresh fish in a delicious broth.
Head to 2F+ Coffee for a high-chillax corner with waffles, cakes, and Coffee.
