PUTIEN Gardens Mall is the 2016 Michelin Guide Singapore awarded a pale reflection of the original PUTIEN in Kitchener Road One Star.
The PUTIEN in Kitchener Road prided itself on “Fresh Ingredients, Original Taste.”
PUTIEN started as a humble coffee shop in Singapore and has grown into an international brand with 25 branches in Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Taiwan, Beijing, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen.

My 2nd Dining Experience at PUTIEN Gardens Mall
This is my second dinner at PUTIEN.
My host chose this outlet as it’s conveniently in Mid Valley.
My first experience was at PUTIEN Courtyard, Subang Jaya. The review is here.
However, for a Michelin Star Restaurant, this PUTIEN outlet is a huge disappointment.
The restaurant was full, so they showed us to a table for four facing the servery hatch.
This is where all the noise from the kitchen is audible, and serving carts are parked.
The din from the plates being cleared and the general noise was unbearable.
As for the food, the taste is mediocre. The presentation is also below par.
We ordered a Braised Claypot Seabass Fillet. When it was served did not match the photo on the menu.
There was no garnishing, and it just looked like a different dish.
It perplexed us that this could have happened at One Michelin Star Restaurant.
Have a look at the photos.
Putien Mee Sua
The Putien Mee Sua is a must-have for the reunion feast, which implies longevity.
This is A must-have for reunion feasts.
The specialty of silken noodles is their tenacity and elasticity.
They make these noodles with different flours, which makes it more elastic.
Traditional food for the locals, the Putien Mee Sua, is a braised dish in rich pork broth.
Putien Loh Mee is braised with pork belly, prawns, clams, oysters, mushrooms, celery, or other types of fresh vegetables.
Mix in their chili sauce, and you are in for a treat. This dish is quite well prepared.
Spinach with Salted & Century Egg
The salty-savory notes of the two types of eggs make the rich broth tasty, while the young spinach leaves are sweet.
The smoky aroma of the whole fried garlic pips gives it a creamy texture.
Compared to the version at PUTIEN Courtyard, this is a little too salty for my liking.
Deep-Fried Chicken with Garlic (Half)
The chicken tastes ordinary, but the presentation could be better.
Braised Claypot Home Made Bean Curd
This dish looked completely different from the picture on the menu! When we pointed to the menu, we were told that the vegetables had wilted after cooking.
Putien Bee Hoon
Purportedly, PUTIEN’s Bee Hoon has a pristine, white, thread-thin texture that doesn’t turn soggy when cooked. This version looks and tastes quite ordinary.
Review of PUTIEN Gardens Mall
We felt that for a restaurant to brand itself as a Michelin-starred One-Star Restaurant, it has to earn the accolade and not rely on the original outlet’s reputation.
