He thanked its faculty, staff, students, and alumni for all their support over the years.
History of Equator College
The recognition of a Penang homegrown college with its humble beginnings is a success story garnered through sheer dedication and hard work.
When EQUATOR was established in 1987, the school started with having seven students.
Today EQUATOR has expanded into 2 campuses, one in Leith Street and the other in Amoy Lane to accommodate its number of students and programs.
Chuah, an accomplished artist himself is a visionary who saw the need to offer affordable quality education with diversity beyond art and design.
Equator College Awards
EQUATOR is awarded a5-Star MyQuest Rating and accredited by the MQA in 2015.
The College introduced its Marketing Communication and Computer-Aided Design & Drafting (Building Design) Diploma programs in 2016 and 2017.
In July 2017, Equator College officially obtained it’s ISO 9001:2015 GMS certification from the certification body TUV NORD.
Celebrations marking the institution’s three-decade milestone started with various activities at the College’s Leith Street campus in central George Town.
Equator College 30th Anniversary Lecturers and Alumni Art Exhibition
A 30th Anniversary Lecturers and Alumni Art Exhibition featuring works from art graduates, faculty members, and founder Datuk Chuah Kooi Yong are ongoing at the G Art Gallery in G Hotel Gurney.
The show runs until Sept 4 and is open for public viewing daily.
Head of Fashion, Chuah Joo Lee, graduated from the Equator in 1993 and continued her studies in the United Kingdom.
Joo Lee not only designs under her own label Jo Chuah Collection, but she also continues to inspire and grow the next generation.
At the dinner were Teo Chun Keat and Tio Mi Qun among other alumni members, who both combine teaching with designing.
The line-up of events culminates with a gala 30th Anniversary Dinner and Fashion Show at Hotel Jen, Penang on Aug 12.
The highlight Gala Night was an exclusive fashion showcase by our Fashion Design Technology department, which featured 30 outfits from 20 designers.
Students of the dance club and music society performed live music and dance performances as the alumni members reunited to celebrate the 30th birthday of their alma mater.
