Wan Dao Tou Assam Laksa Penang

Wan Dao Tou Assam Laksa has been one of my go-to spots in Penang for satisfying my laksa cravings long before they received the prestigious MICHELIN Bib Gourmand Award.

Locals in Penang may dismiss the MICHELIN Bib Gourmand list, but for me, Wan Dao Tou Assam Laksa’s twin sisters, now in their 40s, always deliver delicious bowls of laksa.

Wan Dao Tou Assam Laksa

I’ve been a regular at Wan Dao Tou Assam Laksa since around 2000 when my office moved to Pulau Tikus.

Those were bustling times, with colleagues and I often scrambling for tables, squeezing onto rickety stools, our elbows almost bumping.

We’d eagerly tuck into their delightful laksa, and to complement it, we’d order their tasty friend Popiah (vegetarian spring rolls), dipping them into the fragrant laksa broth.

Other items sold at Taman Emas Kopitiam include Chee Cheong Fun and Penang Char Koay Teow.

More culinary delights! Taman Emas Kopitiam offers a variety of dishes, including Chee Cheong Fun and Penang Char Koay Teow, to satisfy your cravings.

As the years went by, we noticed changes attributed to the rising ingredients costs, like the RM2 charge for the soup.

Wan Dao Tou Assam Laksa won a Penang Hawker Food Challenge in 2016.

While the Assam Laksa is good but nothing earth-shaking, the soup is sour with a hint of sweetness.

My nornal order is Assam Laksa, Chai Kueh and Kuih Talam.

You must add the fried “popiah” to the Laksa soup, which is delicious.
