Mercure Penang Beach CNY Appreciation Dinner 2024

Starting with the longest Yee Sang Toss, Mercure Penang Beach Media Food Review and Appreciation Dinner was a game-changer in the hotel’s effort to impress corporate customers and the media.

The annual event, hosted by the beach hotel, celebrates the spirit of abundance and the joy of the upcoming Chinese New Year.

This year’s event went down exceptionally well, and I declare it was indeed the best CNY party.

From the design of the invitation cards to the rest of the decor, I must commend the Marcom team led by Marketing Communications Manager Izza Safinaz Ibrahim for the birth of the cutest dragon mascots.

The Mercure Penang Beach is excited to present its lively pair of celebratory mascots in honor of the approaching Chinese New Year.

The animated dragons represent happiness, wealth, and luck during the hotel’s Chinese New Year celebrations.

Mercure Dragon Mascots

You will want to take photos with the two dragons, MING LONG and RU LONG because they are so cute! MING LONG, with his vivid gold scales, symbolizes harmony and enlightenment.

As the team’s primary mascot, Ming Long personifies the dragon’s traditional meaning in Chinese culture: strength, power, and good fortune.

RU LONG, Ming Long’s gregarious and cheeky sidekick who loves to make people laugh, accompanies him.

Ru Long’s vibrant demeanor represents the joyous and carefree Chinese New Year celebration elements.

Join photo sessions at designated areas within the hotel to capture the season’s enchantment with Ming Long and Ru Long.

Share these delightful moments with friends and family to spread the joy of the festivities.

In his welcoming speech, Resort Manager Gerard Chan expressed gratitude to all stakeholders, corporate guests, and the media for their ongoing support and heartfelt wishes for everyone to embrace the spirit of abundance and joy in experiencing Chinese Year with Mercure.

“We are excited to welcome guests to our Fortune Feast at the Pearl Ballroom as we usher in the Year of the Dragon. This celebration is a testament to the values of family, good fortune, and prosperity at the heart of Chinese New Year. We invite everyone to join us for an unforgettable evening filled with delicious cuisine, vibrant entertainment, and the joy of togetherness,” said Resort Manager Gerard Chan.

“Longest Yee Sang in Penang”

Laid out in a U shape, Mercure’s “Longest Yee Sang in Penang” allowed guests to face each other and look around to glimpse the fun Yee Sang Toss.

The emcees (Mercure HOD) played an essential role in getting everyone hyped up and ready to toss by reciting ten auspicious phrases and good wishes to bring good luck and prosperity for the year ahead.

Everyone agreed and said, ‘I receive’ in Mandarin, setting the tone for the evening celebrations.

Caishen Ye (God of Prosperity)

The arrival of Caishen Ye excited many guests as he busily distributed ‘gold coins.’ Caishen, the Chinese God of Money, is believed to have the power to bestow wealth and, alternatively, to take it away.

His followers often seek his blessings during the Lunar New Year to request prosperity and safeguard their current assets.

The Chinese characters in his name symbolize’ money’ (cái) and’ god’ (shén).

Chinese New Year Goodies!

Fortune Feast

The hotel curated a lavish feast, offering a sneak peek into the delights anticipated during the Chinese New Year festivities.

Notable highlights included the enticing Slipper Lobsters on Ice, the delectable Smoked Salmon Platter, and the mouthwatering Crispy Roast Duck.

The pinnacle of the experience was the tasty and power-packed Fish Maw Soup. I heard it was refilled three times, and I was lucky to get a bowl!

So delicious!

Friends of St. Nicholas Home for the Blind

One of the most unexpected performances was by Nicholas Lee, who had the entire room singing along.

While we may not have done The Conga, the Head of Department (HOD) led the party train around the darkened ballroom, with everyone turning on their mobile phone lights to cheer Nicholas on.

It was one of the best party trains!
