Kak Rossa and I took a slow drive to Teluk Kumbar to breakfast together at Lexis Suites Penang Ramadan Buffet Dinner.
We were surprised how near Teluk Kumbar is from USM.
Just a short drive past a few traffic lights and the factory area, we were in Teluk Kumbar town.
Along the way, Kak Rossa mentioned several areas where we could access secluded public beaches – the one like Penang’s 70s.

Where is Lexis Suites Penang?
Lexis Suites Penang is a luxury resort hotel in Bayan Lepas, about a 10 mins drive from Penang Airport.
Each suite comes with a private pool and a breathtaking beach view.
The location is within the Southwest Penang Island District, at the southern coast of Penang Island, between Bayan Lepas to the east and Gertak Sanggul.
Fasting During Ramadan and Iftar Meal
I missed sharing an Iftar meal with my Muslim friends.
I will recall the memorable time I visited Kelantan every year during Ramadan.
In the early morning, I joined my friends for Sahur.
I tried to fast but gave up because I couldn’t go without water all day.
When working in KL, my Aussie boss will encourage all the non-Muslim staff to join in solidarity by fasting one day (at least a half-day fast).
The reward to encourage us was a Ramadan Buffet Dinner at a hotel to break fast together.
I remember the times well and cherished the years I worked there.
Sajian Selera Tanah Air – Ramadan Buffet Dinner
Breaking fast with Kak Rossa and the many family groups in the restaurant brought back fond memories.
The “Sajian Selera Tanah Air” (Homeland Dishes) has a delicious ring.
Best of all, there were over a hundred items that I couldn’t possibly try at all.
My only regret was not eating with my hand because the dishes are finger-licking good.
The Bayu Lexis Alfresco Beach Front location is pretty romantic – dining in the tents with a view of each chef operating a food station and beyond the beach with the billowing sea breeze.
A thunderstorm blew away the tent the night before, and the Ramadan Buffet Dinner was moved to the Roselle Coffee House, the all-day dining outlet on the mezzanine floor.
As Ramadan approaches, Lexis Suites Penang offers guests a lavish iftar feast specially catered by the resort’s culinary experts, led by Executive Chef Johnno Fong.

Sajian Selera Tanah Air – Ramadan Buffet Dinner Menu
Featuring daily rotating menus, guests can savor great options from Asian delicacies, Intercontinental specialties, local favorites to appetizing famous traditional Malay cuisine and Arabic dishes.
You will get authentic Malay dishes with international twists, offering a pleasant “kampung style” experience prepared by the resort’s seasoned local chefs.
Break your fast with a variety of dates and sweet, cold drinks.
I like the plump, sweet date, “Jagung” (Corn) drink, and Lemonade best.
Follow that with an assortment of local greens and tasty ” Ulam ” shoots complemented with different spicy sambal types.
Notable ones are the Cincalok, Green Sambal, and Air Assam, which I fancied.
Kak Rossa couldn’t resist the Rojak Buah with sauce.
Other traditional Malaysian favorites are
- Acar Buah
- Goreng Tempe
- Gado Gado
- Penang Pasembur
- Mee Rebus Johor
- Kerabu Omelette
- Sushi
The many varieties of Keropok in the biscuit tins are not to be missed.
I had a great time trying everything, BUT my favorite is the decidedly pungent Keropok Ikan Terengganu.
Every year, my “hajat” (wishful prayer) is to savor a bowl of Bubur Lambuk, a flavored porridge made with aromatics, spices, coconut milk, and dried shrimp.
The delicious rice porridge is served during Ramadan
A bowl of Bubur Lambuk is a tasty way to breakfast.
I found a better way of eating my porridge – with the addition of “Serunding Ayam” (Spicy Chicken Floss) and “Serunding Daging” (Spicy Beef Floss)
Another must-have on the menu is the slow simmer, flavorful-packed Sup Gearbox that is simmered over 16 hours.
This broth is made from cattle bone infused with various blends of herbs and spices.
Other Ramadhan specialties to indulge in are
- Salmon Fish Head Kawah
- Lemang
- Ketupat
- Udang Harimau Masak Daun Limau (Tiger Prawns with Kaffir Leaf)
- Gulai Itik (Duck Curry)
- Ikan Asam Pedas Daun Kesum
- Kambing Kuzi
Other items include
- Bubur Lambuk
- Nasi Briyani
- Ayam Masak Merah
- Kari Ikan
- Kari Kambing
- Lok Lok
- Bakar Bakar BBQ Items
- Fruits
- Cakes
- Desserts
- Raya Goodies
- Traditional Malay pastries
- Teh Tarik
