台好甲 Tai Ho Jiak Georgetown Taiwanese Delights

Tai Ho Jiak 台好甲 has 13 Outlets Across Malaysia!

For a franchise Taiwanese shop, they’ve got the recipes down pat.

Andrew recommended this little gem to me about two years ago, but I only tried it recently.

And when Andrew recommends something, it’s undoubtedly worthy of praise!

Located near New World Park, their signature buns come highly recommended.

We had a late lunch after some quick shopping.

Initially, we planned to head to Osmanthus Alley, but there was no parking.

Another Taiwanese shop I frequent is Bei Tou You Yu 北投鱿鱼 at Karpal Singh Drive.

Tai Ho Jiak is a newly decorated restaurant that serves Taiwanese dishes.

Like most Taiwanese restaurants, it embraces a minimalist café style.

The interior is simple yet tastefully designed, with wood and natural elements giving it a cozy vibe.

Last month, we first noticed this place while visiting 65 Ondo Bakery Café across the road.

The first thing that caught our eye was a placard displaying the menu.

Seating is quite limited, but we got our food quickly since it was off-peak hours.

Tai Ho Jiak Menu

The food selection is quite extensive, with a variety of Taiwanese favoruites.

The taste is good, though it might feel bland if you’re used to salty food or dishes with MSG.

What to Order at Tai Ho Jiak

Braised Pork Belly Bao

Sticky grilled pork belly slices sandwiched in a fluffy bao bun.

The Kong Bak (Braised Pork) is one of those recipes you make for the people you love. The fluffy buns are pillowy soft, and the pork belly has a melt-in-your-mouth deliciousness that eludes most other foods.
We thought it could be stored in the fridge for up to a week, so when you’re hungry, heat it up and enjoy!

I wish they pan-seared the pork belly before placing it into a lotus leaf bun with ground peanuts and pickles to create an excellent Taiwanese-style Gua Bao!

The pillowy, soft texture and melty, fatty pork make it a must-have—one bun per person!

In keeping with everything porky, we also ordered two rice bowls à la carte.

Braised Pork with Floss and Braised Egg

The braised pork was melt-in-your-mouth goodness.

The flavors struck the perfect balance of savory and umami.

However, the balance and ratio of pork to rice could have been better.

I wished for at least a 1:3 pork-to-rice ratio and for the dish to be heavier on the gravy.

Fulong Fried Pork Loin with Fried Egg Rice

The crispy fried pork loin was nicely cooked.

With its runny yolk, the fried egg provided a nice sauce for the rice.

Tai Ho Jiak Review

We had a simple meal at this café and found the food quite good and above average.

Like all Taiwanese cafés, the portions are slightly smaller but reasonably priced.

There are plenty of choices on the menu, and we were satisfied with the overall quality and the friendly, fast service the young service team provided.

However, the food might lack flavor if you’ve lived in Taiwan. It’s not the best Taiwanese food in Penang.

That said, Tai Ho Jiak still offers a pleasant dining experience.

The friendly waiter ensures fast service, and the spotlessly clean environment is a big plus.

While the food is above average, I prefer a slightly heartier taste.

There’s also no noticeable MSG aftertaste.

Overall, it’s a decent option for Taiwanese cuisine enthusiasts looking for a comfortable dining setting.

Parking at Tai Ho Jiak

The only downside is that public parking is quite hard to find.

We parked at New World Park and walked over.

The drinks was average.

I’ll try their desserts on my next visit—or maybe not, since our favorite cendol is just a hop and a skip away.

We will return to try other items we have our eye on.
