Laem Charoen Thai Seafood Freshest Catch

Laem Charoen Thai Seafood made a grand entrance at Queensbay Mall with an irresistible RM1 promo, sparking a social media frenzy.

On Opening Day, my friend Kay, lucky to be in the area, scored the Stir-Fried Prawns with Cashew Nuts for just RM1.

The dish featured eight plump, succulent prawns, perfectly cooked and coated in a flavorful sauce.

Laem Charoen Thai Seafood is a Bangkok-based chain, famed for its “From Sea to Table” philosophy.

The restaurant prides itself on delivering the freshest seafood cooked Thai-style, offering some of the best authentic Thai seafood in Penang.

Eager to see if it lived up to the hype, we joined the FOMO-fueled Penang crowd at Queensbay Mall restaurants.

We arrived early, aiming to beat the lunch rush.

First Impressions

Even though it was only its second day of operation, everything went surprisingly smoothly.

The restaurant’s tasteful decor and tidy, welcoming interior create a pleasant dining atmosphere.

We ordered 4 beautifully executed dishes.

Fried Rice with Premium Crab Meat (RM43.90)

A star performer. Generous chunks of fresh, sweet crab meat elevated the fried rice, which was bursting with wok hei.

Each grain was perfectly seasoned, delivering a symphony of flavors in every bite.

Initially skeptical about finishing the large portion, we devoured every last morsel.

Creamy Tom Yum Chicken (RM28.90)

For those torn between creamy and clear tom yum, the creamy version here—reminiscent of Tom Kha—is a luxurious choice.

This dish featured tender chicken pieces cooked to perfection.

Hearty and comforting, the rich, aromatic broth carried a distinctive creamy tom yum tang.

Stir-Fried Prawns with Cashew Nuts (RM27.90)

This dish is ideal for sharing.

The combination of briny, tender prawns, crunchy cashews, sweet onions, and dried chilies was spot on.

The sauce struck the perfect balance of umami, sweetness, and spice, making it an instant favorite.

Crispy Morning Glory Salad (RM19.90)

A highlight from the Chef’s Choices menu, the Crispy Morning Glory Salad offers a delightful textural contrast.

Lightly battered and fried to a golden crisp, the morning glory retained its fresh vegetal notes.

The accompanying chili dipping sauce added a vibrant burst of flavor.

Final Thoughts

Laem Charoen Thai Seafood delivers superb, authentic Thai cuisine, emphasizing fresh, high-quality ingredients.

Portions are generous, and the flavors are bold and true to their Thai roots.

Service was efficient, with only a 20-minute wait for our orders.

By 1 p.m., queues started forming—a testament to the restaurant’s growing popularity.

We even spotted mall employees dropping by for lunch.

With such a promising start, we hope Laem Charoen maintains its Bangkok-standard quality.

We’re happy to have another restaurant, other than ParaThai, to visit for fresh Thai seafood in Penang and its authentic flavors.
