65C Ondo Bakery is a high end bakery known for its extensive range of freshly-baked pastries using Japanese techniques.

An Introduction to 65C Ondo Bakery Penang

The first 65C Ondo Bakery opened on Christmas Eve 2022.

In two years, this Japanese-style bakery café has made a name for itself in the local food scene and has grown to five locations—three on Penang Island and two on the mainland.

Since its opening, I’ve visited the café on Jalan Burma Road on numerous occasions to buy their delicious, Japanese-inspired baked goods.

What Makes 65C Ondo Bakery Unique?

65°C. Ondo’s pastries are said to be baked using imported flour and butter and Japanese baking methods.

Their attention to detail and commitment to premium ingredients set them apart.

They have earning themself a spot among the best bakeries in Penang—though they are on the pricier side.

The enticing display at Ondo is enough to make dessert love stop in their tracks.

The array of Japanese milk bread, buttery croissants, soft buns, fluffy rolls, small sweets, and more.

Must-Try Pastries at 65C Ondo Bakery

There is a wide selection available, with crowd favorites including cream rolls, croissants, and tarts.

The pastries are freshly baked daily.

The taste is premium and you taste deliciousness in every bite.

I’ve purchased a couple of pastries before, and their cream horns were particularly impressive.

The mouthfeel of the Crispy and crunchy on the outside, filled with creamy custard on the inside so memorable.

During a recent visit, Queenie got us a fluffy, pillowy cheesecake.

The taste was pure indulgence— that practically dissolved in my mouth!

The Ambiance and Café Experience

The café is spacious and stylish, with calm Muji-style minimalist interiors.

However, the café area feels a bit disjointed.

There’s a seating area near the door.

And another single table near the glass panel, which gets too hot in the afternoon.

The seating arrangement could use a little update, as it feels a bit worn.

Most days, the little café’s seats are fully occupied.

We managed to enjoy a leisurely afternoon during off-peak hours, savoring cheesecake and coffee.

The coffee, smooth and rich, pairs perfectly with the sweet treats.

However, the seating isn’t ideal if you prefer lingering in cafés for longer periods.
