When we arrived at the Kowloon Hotel Hong Kong, its bright ceiling lights seemed strangely familiar. Then I realized I had stayed here during an office trip in 1990.
It has been over twenty years since I last visited Hong Kong.
My previous trip was in 1994, before the handover in ’97, and many memories came rushing back.
The first time I stayed at the Kowloon Hotel, we embarked on an architectural tour of Hong Kong, Macau, and Zhuhai in Guangdong, China.
I remember we were there for the 1990 Zhuhai Masterplan, which aimed to create an integrated township.
It featured recreational activities such as golf and a designated race track for Formula 1.
After two decades, I am back in this vibrant city to enjoy myself with some friends.

Here’s a quick review of the Kowloon Hotel in Hong Kong.
Irene promised to book a hotel with a central location close to everything we wanted to do, and the Kowloon Hotel delivered.
Its prime location, right next to the Tsim Sha Tsui Metro station, is an ideal spot for leisure and business travelers, offering unparalleled convenience and accessibility.

Nathan Road, the oldest road in Kowloon, is vibrant and bustling, with every high-end designer shop.
It’s just a short walk to Victoria Harbour and the Avenue of Stars, where you can catch the Star Ferry to Hong Kong Island.
In the evening, it’s an excellent place to walk and enjoy the beautiful, illuminated Hong Kong Island skyline or visit one of the lovely waterfront restaurants.
We also visited the historic 1881 Heritage, blending historical attractions with contemporary pursuits.
There is also a shopping mall and numerous bars and restaurants nearby.
The hotel is about half an hour from the airport by train.

Kowloon Hotel Hong Kong Room and Amenities
Check-in was quick and easy.
The price for four nights in April 2024 was quite expensive, coinciding with the Easter break and the Sam Hui concert, making it pricier than other Asian destinations.
The Kowloon Hotel features an angular room design to showcase harbor views, though the Peninsula Hotel across the street partially obstructed our view.
While the room size was modest in terms of cost by Hong Kong standards, it was large enough to open one big suitcase but not two simultaneously.
Despite renovations after COVID restrictions were lifted, the updates did not result in the significant room transformation we had hoped for.
However, there is slightly more space to move around.
Despite its size, the room had all the modern amenities needed: a fridge, a safe, a comfortable bed, a flat-screen TV, and a well-stocked minibar.
However, it required a wall mirror for makeup, which didn’t bother us.
The room also featured a desk by the window.
The bathroom was functional, with a powerful shower and pleasant-smelling toiletries.
The design balances comfort and functionality, and the room is clean and well-maintained, ensuring a peaceful and comfortable stay.
The prime location of the Kowloon Hotel made up for its modest room comfort, making it an ideal choice for us.
As tourists who spent most of the day exploring Hong Kong, we only needed a comfortable place to rest and sleep.

Dining and Facilities
A buffet-style breakfast is served on the second floor of their restaurant, which has a bar adjacent.
We didn’t eat there and instead chose to explore local Hong Kong-style Cha Chaan Teng, like the Kowloon Restaurant nearby.
From what we gathered, the buffet had all the usual breakfast foods, including some Asian dishes such as noodles and rice.
Please note that this hotel does not have a gym or a spa.
Guests at The Kowloon Hotel can enjoy a workout at the YMCA Fitness Centre which is located right opposite to the hotel. Entrance Fee at HK$200 per person
Opposite the hotel is the iconic Peninsula Hotel, which has an arcade full of high-end designer shops.
The best thing about this hotel is the location, which was excellent for getting around the city.
An additional convenience is the hotel’s shuttle service to well-known locations.
Its prime location at the bottom of Nathan Road offers easy access to the MTR directly from the lobby, making it a perfect choice for travelers.
We didn’t check if there was a shuttle to the airport, as we traveled by train from Hong Kong to Guangzhou.
However, the shuttle service would be convenient for travelers with heavy luggage or tight schedules.
Conclusion
Overall, the Kowloon Hotel is a dependable and pleasurable option, catering to the needs of both business and leisure travelers.
It provides a convenient stay in the city center, making it a good place to stay if you travel to Hong Kong, especially for the first time.
