Last Sunday, I convinced Cynthia to embark on a Hangul Bingsu adventure, and it turned out to be an utterly delightful experience, especially for a first-timer like me!
The anticipation and the first taste of the fluffy ice and delectable toppings were truly unforgettable.
Penang’s scorching heat and humidity had me longing for a refreshing treat, but eating ice cream, ABC, or Cendo,l daily wasn’t cutting it.
Hidden Gem at Garden Inn, Hangul Bingsu is a unique gem among the Bingsu cafes in Penang.
It offers a variety of treats and snacks that are a must-try.
Tucked in the Garden Inn Hotel on Anson Road, it’s a delightful surprise you shouldn’t miss.
Charming Ambiance
Arriving at Hangul Bingsu at 4 p.m. in the late afternoon, the timing was perfect—the cafe was a peaceful oasis amidst the usual Sunday chaos.
What is Bingsu?
Bingsu is a Korean shaved ice dessert that has become a global sensation with its fluffy ice, delectable toppings, and refreshing flavors.
Originating from Korea, this dessert is a perfect antidote to the sweltering heat, and Hangul Bingsu in Penang perfectly captures its essence.
The moment the cool, fluffy ice touches your tongue, it’s like a refreshing breeze on a hot summer day.
Hangul Bingsu Whimsical Decor
The entrance greeted us with Hangul Bingsu cups adorned with a cute fat girl logo against a shiny background.
The cafe is a dreamy, Instagram-worthy space with plenty of photo spots.
As soon as I stepped in, I felt like I had walked into a Disney cafe, thanks to the whimsical decor, which included beautiful blooms and cozy seating arrangements.
The atmosphere at Hangul Bingsu was not just cozy but also incredibly inviting.
It’s the perfect spot for dessert dates, girlfriend hangouts, and family and friend gatherings, making everyone feel at home.

The prices range from RM16.90 to RM21.90, which is reasonable considering the quality and portion size.
Ondeh-Ondeh Bingsu
Cynthia recommended one of their top sellers, the Ondeh-Ondeh Bingsu.
A local twist on the traditional Bingsu, this flavor was a burst of flavors, with Gula Melaka and crispy toasted coconut flakes stealing the show.
We dug in eagerly, savoring the cold and refreshing sweet delight.
Cynthia enjoyed the ‘satay skewer’ of chewy gummy Ondeh-Ondeh.
We savored every spoonful, enjoying the perfect blend of sweetness and texture.
Red Ruby Bingsu
Jeff joined us as we dug in and treated us to a Red Ruby Bingsu.
Pink and beautiful, this Bingsu had a delightful pink whipped cream topping that complemented the delicious Santan-infused shaved ice.
Due to its finely shaved and smooth, snowflake-like texture, I could feel the ice melting in my mouth. The sweet syrup perfectly balanced the Bingsu.
The cafe will even provide condensed milk as a decadent topping if you love extra-sweet desserts.
I loved the creamy, perfectly balanced taste, making it a delightful dessert I would love to try again.
The portion size was just right for sharing.
