Sea Salt Fire Seafood Buffet—Penang Marriott Hotel

Aunty Sua Ku found the freshest Sea Salt Fire Seafood Buffet in the Penang Marriott Hotel.

5 Star Hotel Service

I’ve got to hand it to Marriott; their service is top-notch!

Have you ever felt a bit lost in a hotel?

Well, let me tell you about my experience.

The Marriott front desk lady was incredibly kind.

She not only offered to escort me to the lift but also offered to ride up with me to Level 2.

Now, that’s what I call exceptional hospitality!

Walking into SAGO, the hotel’s restaurant, I was warmly greeted by Ms. Ketty Ooi, the Marketing Communications Manager.

She welcomed me with a beautiful smile and personally escorted me to my seat.

Those personalized touches genuinely make the dining experience at Marriott unforgettable.

After taking a brief tour of the restaurant, I headed to the bar for some drinks.

Sea Salt Fire Seafood Buffet

Penang Marriott Hotel’s themed promotion, the ‘ Sea Salt Fire Seafood Buffet,’ highlights the ocean’s bounty and meets culinary excellence in every dish.

Guests and media experienced a seafood extravaganza firsthand, which ignited taste buds with flavors as vibrant as the surrounding Penang sea.

I must say I am impressed with the layout, buffet line up, and excellent 5 Star hospitality.

SAGO Restaurant Beverages

To elevate your dining experience, SAGO offers enticing add-ons.

How about a glass of Angove Chalk Hill Shiraz Cabernet or Sauvignon Blanc for RM 25 nett each?

Or, if you’re in the mood for something lighter, a refreshing glass of Tiger Beer is also available for the same price.

I was craving something more refreshing, and that’s when I spotted it—fresh coconuts adorned with the Penang Marriott Hotel logo engraved on the skin!

Additionally, you can choose between a coconut shake or sugarcane cooler, both priced at RM15.00 nett.

Cold Section

There are 2 salad sections to start your meal.

SAGO Fresh Garden

One of the buffet’s revolutionary features was the inclusion of nutrient-dense, clean-grown hydroponic vegetables.

These vegetables appeared vibrant green and inviting—almost as if I’d stepped into the Executive Chef’s private garden.

You can indulge in a selection of Boom Grow Salad served with condiments like cherry tomatoes, chickpeas, red onions, olives, corn kernels, red beans, onion, carrot, bell pepper, and croutons, accompanied by French, Thousand Island, and Caesar Dressings.

Composed Salads

If you don’t like to munch on pure green leaves, you can also try the interesting and delicious-looking composed salads.

  • Mix Seafood Pasta Salad with Young Mango
  • Potato Salad with Pomegranate Cider Dressing
  • Sweet Green Pear
  • Turkey Sliced Toast with Blue Cheese Dressing,
  • Tri-Color Fusilli with Homemade Smoked Chicken and Italian Pesto Oil.

Seafood Buckets

After admiring the greens, I made a beeline for the seafood buckets, which were brimming with fresh Tiger Prawns, Clams Sapak, Black and Green Mussels, Scallop Half Shell, and Flower Crabs.

Each fresh harvest from the sea was a sweet delicacy and could be dipped into an array of generous sauces.

I found all the boxes checked for zesty sauces like Cocktail, Chili Lime Mayo, Lemongrass Ginger Dip, Grated Garlic, Chili, and Lemon.

For me, the true showstoppers were the freshly shucked, plump, succulent, briny oysters.

These oysters, called Smartdory, exuded a tantalizing aroma as if they had just been plucked minutes earlier from the sea.

I later learned that Penang Marriott Hotel’s executive chef, Lee Keen Suaan, hand-picked the seafood and shellfish for their freshness.

Hand-Sliced Home Smoked Salmon – Live Station

I was mesmerized to watch as the chef thinly sliced the home-smoked, herb-crusted salmon, further elevating the culinary experience.

As for the topping options, these seemed endless.

From Sarawak Black Pepper Smoked to Cured Salmon Gravlax, accompanied by sour cream, cream cheese, capers, baguette, and pickled onion.

I was tempted to choose ALL. LOL.

ROUND 1

Finally, I couldn’t resist indulging in double servings of home-smoked salmon – So DELICIOUS!

I got some plump prawns, crayfish, and a tempting array of olives, capers, and generous dollops of decadent sour cream and cream cheese.

The condiments are generously served in large bowls.

All the cream cheese you can eat! WOW!

Cheese & Charcuterie

I found myself lingering at the Cold Section, captivated by the allure of the Cheese & Charcuterie selection.

Gouda, Cheddar, Brie, Camembert, and Emmental Cheese are paired with assorted nuts and dried fruits, alongside Chicken Lonner, Beef Pastrami, Turkey Lonner, Smoked Chicken, and Smoked Duck.

It was a tough call between green leaves and potato salad, but my favorite, the potato salad, definitely won the battle!

And, well, I must admit, I couldn’t resist going back for a double serving of the potato salad.

I guess I’m just predictable like that!

It’s just that classic case of Aunty’s love for spuds!

Honestly, I could have happily stayed right there, but duty called, and I knew I had to explore the Hot Section and Desserts.

Hot Section

At Sea Salt Fire Seafood Buffet’s hot section, I encountered a tantalizing array of freshly prepared hot dishes bursting with flavors.

ROUND 2

Hot Casserole

From the Hot Casserole, options like Seafood Thermidor, Sicilian Chicken, Baked Beef Ribatoni, and Baked Fish Filet with Romesco Sauce, Tomato, and Garlic were available.

While I appreciated the Seafood Thermidor, my absolute favorite was the Baked Beef Rigatoni.

Packed with beefy goodness, the pasta was perfectly coated with the rich beef sauce—I couldn’t resist going back for seconds!

I was chatting with my friends, and they know that I really appreciate clear, distinct flavors.

I loved the savory goodness of baked beef rigatoni at the Sea Salt Fire Seafood buffet.

Shell Out Wok

Humans have eaten a wide variety of edible gastropods and snail species since the beginning of time.

I can’t imagine a seafood buffet without a shell-out offering, so I was pleasantly surprised to see Sarawak Black Pepper Escargot on the menu.

Have you ever eaten escargot?

Since snails are rather bland but meaty, the choice of spices in which they’re cooked enhances the taste of escargot.

And makes it so delicious!

While I’ve had snails in garlic butter—the all-time French classic—these Sarawak Escargot are massive and a little hard to maneuver to get the meat out.

You must try the large and meaty Sarawak Black Pepper Escargot, bursting with flavor.

SAGO restaurant’s Shell Out Wok features Malaysian favorites like “Kam Heong” Siput Gong Gong, Sarawak Black Pepper Escargot, and the Cock Sambal Onion Cockles.

The Turmeric & Coconut Clam Sapak was a highlight.

The buffet line was brimming with amazing shellfish cooked in various ways to tantalize every palate.

From the Tandoor

Of course, I couldn’t resist indulging in the Tandoori Naan set – Indian cuisine is an all-time favorite of mine.

From the Tandoor, the selection was mouthwatering: Chicken Tandoori, Tandoori Fish Tikka, and Prawn Tandoori paired perfectly with a variety of Naans, including Plain, Garlic, and Cheese.

For the Indian Specialty Main Dishes, there were treats like Squid ’65’, Lamb Rogan Josh —Kashmiri-style braised Lamb with Spices—and Salmon Fish Head Curry.

I absolutely adore the accompaniments—Mint Chutney, Mango Chutney, Tadka Raita, Cucumber Raita, and Lemon Wedges.

They truly elevate each bite with an extra burst of flavor.

I loved the juicy grilled chicken bites wrapped in soft naan bread and topped with various raita vibrant chutneys.

Chinese Cuisine

For those with a penchant for Chinese cuisine, Penang Marriott Hotel offers an array to satisfy your cravings for HK Roasts Meats.

Roast Counter

While you may not be at a Michelin-starred restaurant like Kam’s Roast Goose, you can still indulge in succulent Roasted Chicken and Roasted Duck served with sweet chili and hoisin sauce.

Hot Chinese Dishes

Feast on hot Chinese dishes such as Oyster Omelette, Stir-Fried Cantonese Vegetables, Wok-Fried Mud Crab with Salted Egg Sauce, Chinese Fried Rice with Shrimp and Silver Anchovy, and Oriental Chicken with Marmite Gravy topped with Roasted Sesame.

Asian Seafood Pasta Station

On my wish list was that smoky, delicious, pan-fried Cantonese noodles paired with heaps of Marmite Chicken. <hint hint>

I’m such a big fan of Braised E-fu noodles that I would look for this at every Chinese restaurant and ZhuChar or Dai Pai Dong (a type of open-air food stall or “cooked-food stall”)

I was a little disappointed that they don’t have the Braised E-fu noodles that I love, but hey, there are still plenty of delicious options to explore at the Asian Seafood Pasta Station!

You can customize your own pasta and seafood dish, with choices like Spaghetti, Rigatoni, or Farfalle for the pasta and a selection of Prawn, Clam, and Mussel (Green & Black) for the seafood.

To top it all off, you can choose from a variety of flavorful sauces, including Tom Yam Sauce, Chili Ginger Sauce, Spicy Shrimp Sauce, Tomato Sauce, and Cream Sauce, all cooked to your liking.

To round off your meal, indulge in a selection of delectable pastries.

Dessert Station

At SAGO Restaurant, other than the Sea Salt Fire Seafood buffet, the enticing variety of desserts left me in awe.

They promised to tantalize taste buds and fulfill every sweet craving.

It’s tough to decide about dessert!

There is an enormous selection of fresh sliced fruits, decadent cakes, ice cream, and ice kacang.

Pastries

An ample but delicious assortment of pastries, including classic favorites, is available, bound to tempt those with a sweet tooth like me.

You can get delicious bite-size Tiramisu, Mini Fruit Tartlets, Coffee Cream Puffs, and Chocolate Brownies.

Other decadent treats made my favorite list: New York Cheesecake, “Harum Manis” Mango Pudding, and Valrhona Chocolate Mud Cake.

Don’t miss out on the diverse flavors of Assorted Nyonya and Malay Kuih, which offer a delightful taste of traditional Malaysian desserts.

Ice Kacang

Cool off the extreme heatwave with a refreshing bowl of Ice Kacang.

The iconic Malaysian dessert features shaved ice topped with sugar syrup, palm sugar, and condensed milk, with a variety of toppings.

Nyonya Cendol

Alternatively, opt for the indulgent Nyonya Cendol, where shaved ice meets coconut milk, palm sugar syrup, and sweetened glutinous rice.

Cold Scoops

Complete your dessert experience with a selection of Cold Scoops.

Available in a variety of flavors, including Mint, Yam, Vanilla, Rainbow, Chocolate, and Strawberry, these scoops provide the perfect ending to your culinary journey.

ROUND 2 & 3

Fresh Fruits

On one hand, you have the refreshing option of Fresh Fruits like Red Watermelon, Rock Melon, Honey Pineapple, Honey Dew, Dragon Fruit, and Jackfruit!

You could also grab Whole Fruits like Green Apples, Red Apples, Golden Pears, Bananas, and Plums.

At the Sea Salt Fire Seafood Buffet promotion at SAGO, Level 2, Penang Marriott Hotel, I enjoyed a delectable spread of large fresh prawns, crayfish, house-smoked salmon, potato salad, and an assortment of desserts.

So, what’s your pick for the perfect dessert finale?

I want to tell you a secret—I wanted to eat all the desserts but only had room left for a selected few, which I shared with Wei Ying and Barry.

ROUND 4

Noodle and Steamer Catch of the days

Even after I had my fill, our friend Barry enthusiastically promoted the Noodles Soup, praising the clear taste of the Chicken Broth soup stock.

Wei Ying and I were intrigued by his enthusiasm, so we each decided to get a bowl.

We literally had to jump skip and hop to eat more of the good food!

You can savor the flavors of Noodle Soup with options like Angelica Herbal Soup, Tom Yam Soup, and Chicken Broth.

Verdict: This is a must-try if you’re a fan of seafood cooked in clear, superior soup bases. I’m now a new convert!

Sea Salt Fire Seafood Buffet – The Ultimate Experience!

As I write, I realize I should have kicked off with a big soupy bowl of fresh seafood and shellfish—crabs, prawns, clams—all of which I could gather.

That would be the best way to savor the delicious sweetness of seafood, where I get to drink every last drop of the bright, clear, sweet goodness.
