SmartDory checks out the highlights at Eastin Hotel Penang Christmas Buffet 2018 with the theme “Celebrating Holiday Cheers”.
Greeted by friendly and professional Nadia and Rebecca, I was soon escorted to my seat to partake of a Festive Menu that included my favorites for Christmas Eve Dinner.
After feasting my eyes on the buffet line up, I was more than ready to eat! I size of the Christmas menu on display and made mental note of the must eat and the tasting then goes back to my favorites.

Maki and Futomaki Sushi Roll with Condiments, Seafood on Ice and Selection of Sashimi (Tuna & Salmon)
We open our palates for the Christmas menu with the assortment of Cold Appetizer.
Seafood Bouillabaisse with Garlic Crouton
Assorted Roll & Bread
The Seafood Bouillabaisse with Garlic Crouton is quite a star and not to be missed. This classic Provençal seafood stew is loaded with clams, prawns, and chunks of fish in a hearty broth cooked with a hint of sweetness Crustaceans, leeks, onion, and chopped garlic.
I call this the slow-burning passion. It is warming, full of tasty goodness and calls for another bowl.
The thick slices of Garlic Bread are exceptional. Topped with garlic, butter, and additional fresh herbs, the Garlic Bread is pre-made broiled until toasted with the butter melted and bread crisp. If you want extra crispness, there is a small oven toaster ready for you to crisp it up further.

Roasted Striploin with Mushroom Sauce
I must commend Eastin Hotel Penang’s culinary team for consistently making the Christmas Menu sing with Carving dishes. I thoroughly enjoy the items and the well risen Yorkshire Pudding! The Chestnut Stuffing is exceptional. Roasted Striploin to the required doneness and Roasted Turkey is juicy and tender.
The three sauces, Giblet Sauce, Cranberry Sauce, and Mushroom Sauce are well balanced without being overly salty or sweet.

Baked Salmon Fillet with Herbs Vinaigrette Infused Mushrooms
Beef Steak with Tonkatsu Sauce

Assorted Vegetables with Salted Fish and Nuts
Stuffed Squid with Otak- Otak and Spicy Peanut Sauce
Potato and Cheese Timbale served with Spicy Tomato Sauce
I tasted all the mains and my favorites are the Chicken Yakitori, Venison, Fried Beef Steak, Potato, and Cheese balls. The Stuffed Squid with Otak- Otak and Spicy Peanut Sauce has a very interesting taste and texture Malaysians will enjoy.

Eastin Hotel has a reputation for making some of the best cakes and pastries that I enjoy. For all the years I have dined here, I will always save some space for the decadent chocolate inspired cakes, and puddings.
This year I note that another of my favorite Pasty Chef is missing and with that the cakes she makes that I miss dearly.
How do I know this? Simple, just as I learn to recognize an art piece by the style of the artist, the same goes for the Pastry Chefs. Visually, I already know when I look at the cakes. The taste is good, with a richness that can only be described as someone who bakes with passion.
For the Eastin Hotel Penang’s culinary team who made this dinner remarkable, I say thank you for your creativity, love, and passion. This is what good food is all about.
It is not about the price of the food, but eating good food, especially the Christmas Menu must be commended. This is not a menu the chefs prepare on a daily basis. The Chefs put their best effort and make this an experience for us.
