Bismillah Cendol Taiping Since 1993

Bismillah Cendol Taiping has been delighting taste buds since 1993, and alongside it stands the renowned Ansari Famous Cendol.

These two iconic stalls in Taiping are must-visit spots for anyone craving a taste of this delicious dessert tradition!

Bismillah Cendol is near the St. George’s Institution, Taiping (Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan St. George, Perak).

Both Cendol outlets are within walking distance of each other.

If you visit Taiping, these two cendol outlets are a must-go for desserts.

Khim and I drove to Taiping and stopped by for a cold bowl of Cendol.

The Malaysian weather was scorching in the afternoon, and we wanted something cool, tasty, and sweet.

Voted the best Cendol in Taiping, Bismillah Cendol is a MUST for visitors to historical Taiping!

The first time I visited, a local l boy, Pavin, taught me here.

Inside Bismillah Cendol

The shop is not that big, and there is limited seating available.

Most patrons are okay with sharing a table, as everyone wants a quick snack here.

Bismillah Cendol Menu

The day we went, a Friday, the Malay Laksa stall outside the shop was not there.

The Pasembur and Cendol at Bismillah were a good match of savory and sweet.

If you want an afternoon snack, the combination is perfect.

There are a few versions of the Cendol at Bismillah.

  • Standard Cendol Biasa
  • Cendol Kacang (with Red Beans)
  • Glutinous Rice Cendol Pulut
  • Tambah Jagung (Add on Canned Creamed Corn)

The Pulut (Glutinous Rice) was already sold out when we arrived.

Normal Cendol

We ordered regular Cendol Kacang with Add Jagung as the Glutinous Cendol is sold out.

Many customers love the Cendol Pulut, which adds texture and a nice salty contrast to the sweet Cendol.

The taste of the Cendol is a little different than that in Penang.

The Santan (Coconut Milk) is thin and not as thick as expected.

It is still worth trying a different version in another Malaysian State.

The difference is there are fewer strands of Cendol; the dessert is not too sweet and a little thin.

Unlike the thicker, richer santan version that Penangites are accustomed to eating.

Service at Bismillah Cendol

I find Perakians to be friendly and nice.

Even with so many customers, the staff are efficient and friendly.

The Indian uncle sells not only Cendol but also Pasembur.

You can have a Cendol Biasa or get ready to customize your Cendol with Pulut, Red Beans, and Jagung.

Takeaway Bismillah Cendol

You may find a long queue but fast-moving outside the shop.

Pro Tips: if you want to dine in, walk straight into the shop and sit. You don’t have to join the queue as it is for takeaway only.

Pasembur RM4

The Pasembur here is a bit different from the Penang version.

The delicious sauce comes with cucur udang, tofu cubes, shredded yam bean, and cucumber.

Pro Tips: For those who have never been to Taiping or are unfamiliar with the one-way road system, it is better to use GPS to find them easily.

Conclusion

The Taiping Cendol is different from the versions found in Melaka and Penang.

As a Penangite, I prefer my Cendol with a heap of shaved ice, Gula Melaka, and thick Santan ladled over the mound of Red Beans and Cendol strands.

While Melaka’s Cendol has thick, syrupy Gula Melaka and Penang’s has thicker Santan, Taiping’s version has a lovely taste.

You must try it when you visit this historic town.
