Penang’s famous Bangkok Lane, Mee Goreng, has relocated to the New World Park food court.
The stall started in 1941 at the Seng Lee Cafe (Kopitiam) in Pulau Tikus at Bangkok Lane.
The new location at New World Park food court or New World Park Food City is great.
There’s ample car parking here.
In Penang Hokkien, New World Park, or Sin She Kai, is one of the breeziest food courts, with the tables set far apart.
The food court has many other famous Penang street foods in this new location.
So, if you are visiting Penang, you will enjoy its central location in George Town.

The owners moved here on 1 September 2021.
The stall is easy to spot as there is a queue waiting for their food.
They are operating right on the corner lot of the hawker lot.
Uncle speaks Penang Hokkien.
Uncle recognizes me even though it’s been years since I dropped by the stall for my afternoon fix.
He speaks perfect Hokkien, like the Penangites, and he is friendly and chatty.
He dishes out his famous Mamak style “Bangkok Lane Mee Goreng” with aplomb in proper form.
You can order by signaling with your index finger.
He will say “chit pua” and start chatting to you about everything in Hokkien.
I was just happy that I got Uncle to fry my Mee Goreng.
I asked him to make a big sharing plate for Penny and me.

The price is still the same, and the quality is excellent.
Uncle’s son, Mahboob Md Zakarih, has mastered the “art of goreng,” spinning the huge wok on the stove as he fries.
Uncle is 70 and loves to cook for his old customers.
Penny: Does the spinning make the color orangy-red?
Dory: Yes, it makes the famous Bangkok Lane Mee Goreng tastier!
Our sharing plate was huge for RM10. That was a feast for us.
How do you eat the famous Bangkok Lane Mee Goreng?
The Mee Goreng is served piping hot.
You can see the noodles coated thoroughly with the spicy-sweet eggy mixture.
Mine is mild, although you can customize it to be extra spicy for that burning hot kick.
While some people ask if there’s “Wok Hei” for Mee Goreng, I beg to differ.
A great Mee Goreng has no smoky flavor, just a nice spicy-sweet, tomatoey Unami cuttlefish and eggy flavor.
Their version is on the drier side for the famous Bangkok Lane Mee Goreng.
There is a slight spiciness to the sotong, which has a decent chewiness bite.
Penny helped me eat the cuttlefish slices.
However, if we were any greedier, which sometimes happens, we would have ordered an Ais Kacang each.
But we just came out from Sin Seh Kai Cafe, where we had croissants and eggs!
But being sensible girls, we had our hot Cham (Kopi and Milky Tea)
If you are wondering, the famous New World Park has moved into an independent shop that faces Burma Road.
We wanted to order Fried Fritters (Cucur Udang) from the man who operates the stall at the end, but he was closed that day.

Verdict: Yes, you got to eat the Mee Goreng.
I have wanted to eat the Mee Rebus version for years but have never ordered it.
Perhaps I will make it a point to have that on my next trip.
Tip: You can also order the Famous Bangkok Lane Mee Goreng “Kosong” if you prefer just noodles.
They are very nice and friendly folks, so don’t feel shy “paiseh.” It is on the menu and costs RM4!
