Getting a slice of Authentic Italian OTTO Pizza is lip-smacking good.
It’s been too long since I was in Italy.
I remember walking around the streets of Rome, taking photos, and walking up to the roadside stalls to find large rectangular slabs of reheated Pizza when you ordered them.
This is pizza al taglio, or as we know it, Pizza by the slice, where you buy Pizza you pay based on weight.
The exciting thing is that the pizza dough is designed to be reheated due to its high hydration and must be fermented for 90-120 hours!
Walking into OTTO Pizza reminds me of my brief spell on Italian soil.

What is authentic OTTO Pizza?
An authentic Italian pizza is perfection at five different levels – the base, the sauce, the cheese, the toppings, and last but not least – the pizza chef.
Otto Pizza was created by the Italian owner and pizza chef who moved from Rome to Penang three years ago, bringing an authentic Italian experience to Penangites.
The Pizza base
Otto Pizza’s base differs from those pizzas in commercial franchise kitchens.
I voluntarily give up eating my biscuit dough crust pizza after tasting Otto’s.
While the biscuit dough is as versatile as a traditional pizza crust, on which you can heap ingredients, herbs, and seasonings, its flaky texture pales in comparison to the Pizza base.
An Authentic Italian Pizza is made from a unique mix of flours imported from Italy.
There’s something so warm and comforting in the handmade Italian Pizza bread taste that is irreplaceable.
OTTO Pizza’s special is the sourdough crust, which is healthier due to its longer fermentation (up to 48 hours) to prepare the dough for baking.
The pizza crust has a hint of sourness, is deliciously chewy, and is addictive.
What did we order at OTTO Pizza?
Faced with the long list of delectable items on the menu, ordering wasn’t a toss between what we had tried and something new.
If I had chosen it myself, I would have picked a pizza margherita, a Pizza Four Cheese, or a Pizza Gorgonzola Walnut.
There were several choices, but we decided to go for the classic ones.
We settled for these three items, which were more than we could manage to finish!
Queen Vegetariana RM 44.00
Tomato, Mozzarella, Black Olive, grilled mixed vegetables with garlic and chili flakes.
Verdict: Recommended for vegetarians! The Queen Vegetariana Pizza was excellent, crusty, and deeply satisfying.
The pizza crust was nice and chewy, and the sauce, cheese, and grilled mixed vegetables were spot-on and delicious.
Pasta Spaghetti Pesto RM 24.00
Long pasta Spaghetti with homemade Basil Pesto Sauce, Parmesan, and Olive Oil.
Verdict: My long-time favorite since I discovered pesto.
I have been trying to order a decent Pasta Spaghetti Pesto; Otto’s version is what I like in a traditional pesto sauce—a thick, green sauce that tastes bright and herby from the basil and salty and rich from the cheeses and pine nuts.
It is garlicky, with pleasant grassiness from good quality olive oil.
I will come back for more!
Italian Fried Set RM 25.00
Arancini: Deep-fried Risotto Ball stuffed with Mozzarella
Crocchette: Deep-fried Mashed Potato
Zeppole: Deep-fried Dough ball stuffed with Mozzarella and Anchovies or Turkey Ham.
Verdict: In Rome, the Italian word fritti refers to the mouth-watering array of fried foods found at street food joints and restaurants across the city.
Eaten as a snack or a quick bite on the go, in Rome, the true home of the fritti is the pizzeria.
Romans will always kick off a meal in a pizzeria with a range of fried antipasti freshly cooked to order and brought to the table piping hot, accompanied by an ice-cold beer to de-grease the palate.
Otto offers 3 top favorite fried foods that Romans love – Arancini, Crocchette, and Zeppole.

2nd Dining Experience
I liked the food so much that I returned in the same week to try another pasta dish; I would have ordered another pizza, but I could not finish it in one sitting.
So, for my personal friends who want to join me for a pizza meal, comment below.
Pasta Spaghetti Carbonara RM 29.00
Long Pasta Spaghetti with Smoked Beef Brisket, Parmesan, Cream, Olive Oil, Salt, and Pepper.
Verdict: Smoked beef spaghetti carbonara is a classic pasta dish for people who don’t eat pork.
Pasta, eggs, cheese, and Smoked Beef Brisket combine in the ultimate Italian favorite: Spaghetti Carbonara.
I polished that off by myself.
Dining Area
The premise of OTTO Pizza is to offer a few tables for dining.
When Penelope and I went for dinner, we saw several grab-and-go pickups for pizzas.
We prefer to sit down and eat our food from the kitchen in the pizzeria.
According to the friendly folks at Otto Pizza, the pizza selections will change over time to keep you surprised every time!
Italian Drinks
We wanted to order Chinotto San Pellegrino, an Italian sparkling citrus-flavored beverage made from chinotto oranges, but it was not in stock.
