One of Penang’s top spots for Claypot Crab Rice is Ten Feng Tambun Claypot Crab Rice.
This eatery used to be known as Ten Feng Tea House (天峰茶坊).
It has relocated from Macalister Road to Lebuh Carnarvon.
Many may not realize it’s a Chinese tea-drinking venue.
The signboard promotes chayi (“the art of drinking tea”) or cha wenhua (“tea culture”).
Historically, teahouses in China were places for scholars to share ideas.

Who doesn’t love Clay Pot Crab Rice?
I certainly do! Here are some dishes you can enjoy:
- Signature Claypot Crab Rice
- Claypot Crab Porridge
- Crab Tang Hoon (Glass Noodles)
We ordered three items:
- Chicken Herbal Soup (RM 12 per bowl)
- Blanched Ladies Fingers (RM 12/large)
- Signature Claypot Crab Rice (RM 122/pot)
Chicken Herbal Soup (Rm 12 per bowl)
At first, the Chicken Herbal Soup seemed pricey. It had only a few chicken pieces and some red dates.
However, the soup was flavorful and comforting.
Blanched Ladies Fingers (Okra) (RM12/ large)
The Ladies Fingers is pretty ordinary as I often have this at home.
Signature Clay Pot Crab Rice (RM130 per kg)
The Signature Claypot Crab Rice was the highlight. I loved the smoky aroma.
Though the serving seemed large for two, Elsie said her husband and she usually finish a whole pot, including soup and vegetables.
She recommended ordering it with siu bak (Roasted Pork) for extra flavor.
I could taste Kiam Hu (Salted Fish) in the dish.
There were two fatty mud crabs, fresh and juicy, with sweet meat that matched the salty seafood essence.
Clay Pot Crab Porridge (RM130 per kg)
The Crab Porridge is easy to make.
It’s cooked in a claypot with fresh crab and rich stock, served with congee.
The seafood broth is sweet and satisfying.
Crab Tang Hoon (Glass Noodles) (RM130 per kg)
Elsie said the Claypot Crab Glass Noodles have a milder flavor.
It lacks the charred rice taste that many enjoy.
So far, nothing beats the bold version from Kedai Makanan Rasa Lain, cooked with crushed white peppercorns, Shaoxing wine, and streaky bacon!
Review of Ten Feng Tambun Clay Pot Crab Rice
Elsie treated us to lunch, totaling RM 155.
While it may seem pricey, the quality of the ingredients and taste were excellent.
