The Ombak Mercure Penang Beach Set Lunch

The Ombak Mercure Penang Beach Set Lunch with Semi Buffet

Executive lunches at The Ombak are great for building rapport- plus, we get to enjoy the tasty set lunch with a semi-buffet.

The Ombak is Mercure Penang Beach’s coffee house. If you think this restaurant looks familiar, this was the former location of Four Points by Sheraton.

Mercure Penang Beach is AccorHotels’s first property in Penang.

The other AccorHotel property I stayed at is Novotel Taiping in Perak.

The Ombak

The coffee house is the hotel’s all-day dining restaurant where the in-house guests have breakfast.

I like the coffee house as it offers a choice of air-conditioned sections and al fresco dining with an excellent panoramic view of the sea.

If you like delicious Malay Gulais, Salmon Laksa, and weekend BBQs, rest assured these favorite items are on the menu at the Ombak.

Chef Ismail is helming the fort and makes sure the food is delicious.

The Ombak has a lovely tea time menu with the most delicious Pisang Goreng ice cream and vanilla sauce.

At RM30.00, the meal includes a glass of Iced Lemon Tea.

There are four dishes per menu; the authentic dishes will be revised occasionally.

We were there for dinner and ordered three of the four lunch choices.

Our votes were Salmon Alfredo and Pollo Allo Spiedo.

Ayam Betutu (Roasted Chicken in Spices)

The Ayam Betutu, we feel, is adjusted for Westerner’s taste buds.

We have tried the popular, highly seasoned, spiced dish in Bali and Lombok, Indonesia. I could not even take the chili in the Indonesian version.

Salmon Alfredo

Spaghetti is al dente and served with a beautiful creamy Parmesan Cheese Sauce.

The Salmon flesh flakes apart easily and is buttery and delicious.

There’s a nice slice of Garlic Bread for you to munch on.

Pollo Allo Spiedo (Roast Chicken)

The roast chicken comes with a generous portion of grilled chicken breast with wings on a mashed potato bed.

We love the roast veg and the flavored rosemary gravy.

I adore mashed potatoes.

Secretly I wished for mushy peas.

The Ombak Mercure Penang Beach Set Lunch Review

Overall the food is delicious and lightly flavored.

I enjoy sprinkling salt onto food just before I eat it for that up-front flavor bang.

The meal portions are large!

My vote is for The Ombak for the freshly prepped and cooked meals.

Everything in the kitchen is made from scratch. Plus, you see the chefs cook your meal in the open kitchen.

For the price you are paying, this is a steal!

Plus, Points of Eating at a Hotel’s Coffee House

When you dine at cafes without a hot kitchen, you will get a ready-made meal from the central kitchen (to ensure consistency) that requires very little preparation besides heating up.

That will adequately cost about RM40 for pasta and fancy coffee.

This is why I prefer to dine in hotels.

The hotel ensures essential food safety and hygiene practices are kept as it is vital for their guests’ well-being and safety.

Huge plus points to choose The Ombak

  • Free Parking
  • Air-condition Dining Area
  • Al Fresco Dining
  • Sea view
  • Excellent service
  • Free drinking water
  • No plastics cutlery or utensils

Zero Plastic

To reduce plastic waste, all properties under AccorHotels have stopped providing plastic straws when serving drinks.

Birthday Cake

Smartdory and friends appreciate Mercure Penang Beach’s friendly gesture and the gift of a lovely decorated Cheesecake and singing Happy Birthday for our private celebration.

Thanks, guys; you know who you are!
