The atmosphere heats up as editors, journalists, photographers, and bloggers swarm the stylish Gurney Paragon Mall as Celebrities Socialites Grace Penang Fashion Week 2017.

“Colours of Spring / Summer 2017” saw a parade of 17 designers and 27 runway shows. The glitzy gala opening showcased diverse collections.

These are homegrown labels and international brands.

Celebrities attended the gala opening, Malaysian fashion icon Datuk Jimmy Choo, Hong Kong celebrity Grace Wong and international model Tuti.

Myanmar’s Mo Hom, Hong Kong’s Richard Li, Taiwan’s Illiza Ho, and Malaysia’s Bon Zainal and Eric Choong.

Penang Fashion Week 2017 runways showcased a catalog of ideas.

Young Designer Gavin Tan’s quirky fun sporty wear had “doodle” designs for the young urbanite. He designs under his brand Gavin JW.

Equator College joined in the Penang Fashion Week 2017 celebration with designers and students taking part. Head of fashion school, Chuah Joo Lee, said it was an excellent opportunity for students to showcase their talent.

It is a timely event for the industry players to discover new talents, to promote local designers.

Chuah hopes to inspire the student designers through this exposure.

Veteran designer Ranndy Goh showcased outfits in classic black and red.

The Look Book’s professional shots projected on the screen juxtaposed dramatically against the models on the catwalk.

Goh’s bold splash of colours in his ready-to-wear range has jackets, gowns, and capes.

Two local celebrities Sampson Chew and Sam Khor wore Goh’s adaptation of the classic men’s jackets.

Penang Fashion Week 2017

Penang Fashion Week 2017 in Gurney Paragon Mall culminated on a philanthropic note.

Ten of Penang’s elite ladies took to the runway wearing outfits from Kate Spade New York. The select models did exceptionally well.

“We needed a lot of encouragement to go on stage. I made many new friends and had an awesome time,” Datin Karen H’ng said.

The gala closing ceremony raised RM20 500 for the Guang Ming Charity Fund for the underprivileged and needy.
