Well-praised by veggie lovers and regulars, the Leaf Healthy House’s 綠葉坊 organic food is consistently delicious, flavourful, and satisfying.
I have been an on-and-off regular since the café opened.
The Leaf Healthy House 綠葉坊 has grown from the owners’ belief to provide healthy organic food free of MSG, artificial coloring, and preservatives.
Health Consciousness
Younger health-conscious individuals and families have embraced The Leaf Healthy House 綠葉坊 concept of health-conscious eating and sustainability.
This little café fills the niche and proves that its recipes are worthy of repeat customers who come to try, become convicted, and remain loyal.
In Penang, where vegetarian options are Chinese or Indian, the Leaf’s menu is an exciting mix of Western and Asian cuisines.
I have tried their food and brought friends over for dinners.
Original Taste of Vegetarian Food – The Leaf Healthy House
Everyone gave the thumbs up for originality and raved about the food.
The dishes are quirky, soulful, and individualistic.
The prices are reasonable and add, which cost RM4.90 for a drink and salad OR dessert.
Vegetarian Otak Otak
A favorite, the chefs made this from an aunt’s secret recipe. I like this because it has a fish texture and tastes like the real Mc Coy.
I can taste the chili paste’s heat from the bird’s eye chilies, lemongrass, galangal, and torch ginger buds.
But I have no idea how they got the fish texture and taste down pat.
Perhaps they used a combination of vegan fish, mushrooms, and kelp puree, which I’ll never know.
I always order two packets first whenever I go for dinner before making the rest of my requests. It is good!
Edamame (Japanese Soya Beans)
Our order came in late in between the main course. It would be better if they could time this right.
However, I figured thawing it took some time!
Vegetarian Vietnamese Hand Rolls
Wrapped in softening Vietnamese rice paper, it shreds the filling of white and purple cabbage, julienne carrots, lettuce, vegetarian meat floss, and green, red, and yellow capsicum slices.
With the only flavor from the vegetarian meat floss, the hand rolls were a wrapped green salad.
The dipping sauce was both a basil or mint sauce, which is watered down and disappointing.
The fat cut rolls’ presentation looks like a bouquet, but eating one was akin to grace under fire, as the ingredients kept falling out!
It would be better if the rolls weren’t made so fat and wrapped with the ends uncut.
As it is, the flavors are fresh and clean.
Most of their dishes are naturally flavored, as the chefs do not believe in over-seasoning.
As such, the dishes may be rather bland and unappetizing for some.
Pumpkin Soup
Victor loves pumpkin soup and rates this as the best he has tasted. I agree 100%.
As you read on, six surprising health benefits of pumpkin soup may astound you.
This includes weight loss, sharper vision, better immunity, younger-looking skin, lower cancer risk, and may help treat diabetes!
Spinach Soup
If there’s no pumpkin soup on the menu, this would be no. 1
Spinach has developed a reputation for being one of the healthiest foods around and is reputed to be good for
- weight management
- increases energy level
- improves mind power
- anti-inflammatory
- improves bone health!
Pesto Pasta
A winner, the taste of the al dente pasta with the basil pesto is just perfect.
The pasta is served with pine nuts, garnish, and blanched broccoli and cauliflower.
Pesto is a delicious green, nutty sauce made from basil, olive oil, garlic, parmesan cheese, and pine nuts.
The health benefits of all these good ingredients make for a well-balanced, healthy diet.
Ingredients with high olive oil and pine nuts are higher in calories due to the higher fat content.
Kerabu Rice
Made from brown rice, this kerabu rice is quite lovely, even though it lacks fried and flaked salted fish to bring it together.
The sambal without belacan is a nice touch to brighten up the predominant carb dish.
Kam Heong Stir-Fried Mushroom Set
Victor is intrigued and orders this. The sauce is quite lovely, and the mushroom is meaty to the bite.
We kept reminding ourselves that this was a vegetarian café, and we were surprised that the food was well made and tasted delicious without MSG or meat products!
There are add-ons when you order their main course.
For RM4.90, you can choose a chilled Yogurt Fruit Salad (with a tiny cube of fruit), organic soy milk, or a Homemade Nutmeg drink.
There are other dessert options, such as jelly or “thong suit.”
