Teddy Bears Live Forever At Teddyville Museum Penang
At the Teddyville Museum in Penang, I saw a yellow Chad Valley 1960s-type Teddy Bear,which reminded me of my first teddy.
He wasn’t an original but a made-in-China bear that cost $7 in the late 70s.
Fully jointed, Ted had movable arms and legs and could sit, stand, or walk.
Though he wasn’t huggable, he was my faithful companion for playtime and naptime, and we had a great time together.
Modern plush bears are made of washable materials selected for softness and huggability, unlike Ted’s lightweight organic kapok fiber filling, a non-degradable material of that era.
Despite the differences, to this day, I still miss Teddy.

Teddy Bears at TeddyVille Museum Penang
I often wished that I could visit a place where all the Teddy Bears lived and we could have a picnic together.
The museum is on the ground floor of the newly opened DoubleTree Resort by Hilton in Batu Ferringhi.
TeddyVille Museum Penang covers 9,000 square feet of the ground floor!
Yes, the teddies are very much alive and popular, judging from the smiles on the happy faces of old and young visitors.
There is an impressive Mini Penang, where miniature bears and sets are dressed to tell the island’s history.
The collection dates back to the 1900s and features Malaysia’s first and most extensive collection of teddy bears from different eras and nations.
The little bears are dressed and placed in small sets to represent the many attractions in Penang.
The bears come in a variety of shapes and sizes.
The range is from tiny miniatures even to broader than human-sized! I was bowled over.
There were teddies of all sizes, shapes, and Colors, all living in harmony in their museum home.
Can I cuddle the Bears?
All the handmade human-sized teddy bears in the museum are made for touching.
You can squeeze, cuddle, and hug them to your heart’s content as long as you’re not too rough.
Is there a Teddy Bear Song?
“The Teddy Bears’ Picnic” is a melody by American composer John Walter Bratton, written in 1907, and lyrics added by Irish songwriter Jimmy Kennedy in 1932.
It remains famous as a children’s song, having been recorded by numerous artists over the decades.
Kennedy lived at Staplegrove Elm and is buried in Staplegrove Church, Taunton, Somerset, England.

My mom says she learned the song as a little kid, and I used to sing it at nursery school. She sang that to me when I was a little girl.

Are there Bear Stories in Fairy Tales?
“Goldilocks and the Three Bears” (originally titled “The Story of the Three Bears”) is a 19th-century fairy tale in which three versions exist.

The venue has various fun and colourful exhibition areas. It is reputed to be filled with over 1,000 cute teddies.
One of the best things I love is the souvenir shop where you can expand your teddy bear collection. Bears need more bear friends, you know.

TeddyVille Museum is located in Batu Ferringhi and away from the city center. Taking a public may be an issue due to infrequency.
Private vehicles, taxis, or Grab would be your best bet.
