Signature Beijing Duck with "lotus buns," at The Seven Restaurant & Bar

The Seven Restaurant – My Favorite Dining Spot

The Seven Restaurant is trendy, so Miss Peggy and I often go there for an early dinner at 5:30 p.m.

Personally, this is the earliest I’ll dine out, and for good reason—I’m not too fond of crowds or waiting in queues.

One time, we arrived a bit later, and the restaurant was already full. We had to wait about 20 minutes, but it was worth it.

Aside from some of the most delicious restaurants I’ve visited in Hong Kong, I prefer to avoid long food queues when dining out in Penang.

“Or would you just head home and settle for bread with butter?” chimed Miss Peggy.

“Correct on all accounts.”

Family Favorite Chinese Restaurant

I’ve passed by The Seven Restaurant many times over the years, and it’s almost always packed during peak hours, with hordes of people waiting outside.

Despite the popularity, the wait times are usually manageable, and the staff does their best to accommodate everyone.

If you were to ask how often I’ve eaten there, about once a month on average.

The Seven is one of my favorite Chinese restaurants.

I value friendly service and consistently tasty food; the Seven doesn’t disappoint.

First Impressions

I had read no reviews before visiting, so I came in with no expectations when Irene introduced me to The Seven Restaurant and Bar 七号笼门 at E-Gate before COVID-19.

Upon entering, I was pleasantly surprised by the unique interior design, which blends elements of a convenience store with a traditional Chinese medical hall.

Like the proverbial word of mouth, Irene’s boss treated the colleagues to a nice company dinner, and everyone loved the food.

Irene wanted to share this dining experience with me.

The Seven Innovative Cuisine

The Seven Restaurant’s innovative approach to cuisine is evident in its unique blend of local ingredients with authentic Hunan and Cantonese dishes.

This combination makes the dishes more palatable to the local palate and maintains their fresh taste, sparking curiosity with every bite!

Charming Ambiance

The Seven Restaurant and Bar’s cozy and inviting dining atmosphere, created by the bold Chinese interior décor, comfortable seating, and soft lighting, enhances the overall dining experience.

The extensive picture menu also caters to those curious about the appearance of their dishes.

Family-Friendly Dining

The Seven Restaurant’s family-friendly menu, with various dishes catering to children and adults, generous portions, and accommodating staff, makes it a perfect choice for celebrations or weekend dinners.

Their menu boasts a variety of dishes, including noodles, rice dishes, and vegetarian options.

It also features a Top 10 List of signature dishes, including their renowned ramen, a favorite.

Whenever Miss Peggy and I dine here, we order their Ramen with Seafood and Spicy Milky Soup.

This dish combines the flavors of Chinese Mala Dry Pot with creamy milk, creating a comforting soup that retains its distinct flavors.

The perfectly cooked ramen has an excellent texture and silky smooth finish, complementing the superb seafood.

Takeaway Treat

Sometimes, I take the Stir-Fried Hor Fun with Seafood away for my mom. Despite being a small eater, the portion is decent enough to share.

The Seven Culinary Experience

As in any Chinese restaurant, we received braised peanuts to munch on, and the complimentary welcome beverages added a pleasant touch to our meal.

The food we ordered at The Seven Restaurant and Bar was flavorful, perfectly complementing white rice.

Being constantly hungry, we indulged in their dishes, often pairing them with their delicious ramen.

Our favorites include the dishes from their Top 10 list, with a special mention for the Iberico pork ribs, which we order without fail each visit.

Another standout dish is the salted egg-fried tofu, delivering a bold punch of its characteristic flavor.

Signature Beijing Duck with "lotus buns,"

The Signature Beijing Duck features crispy skin served with hoisin sauce, scallions, and soft steamed wheat flour ‘lotus buns,’ ideal for creating flavorful sandwiches.

It boasts a soft interior encased in a crispy exterior, a delightful combination I highly recommend for its taste and generous portion size.

Overall, I found the food at The Seven Restaurant and Bar to be of excellent quality, featuring robust, aromatic flavors and satisfying portions.

The restaurant maintains a consistent standard of freshness across its diverse menu offerings.

Paired with attentive and friendly service, it ensures a consistently satisfying culinary experience.

Menu Highlights & Promotions

The Seven Restaurant periodically offers exciting promotional menus.

During my visit with some classmates, we indulged in their Parent’s Day promotion and savored a delightful 8-course dinner, a testament to their variety and value.

While some may consider it pricey, the fresh quality of the food, generous portions, and excellent service justify the cost, making it a worthwhile dining choice.

Salted Egg Tofu

Salted Egg Tofu is a delectable dish where fried tofu achieves a crispy texture, coated in a rich, creamy, and buttery salted egg yolk sauce.

There is a general dining area and a private room available, suitable for a table of 10 guests.

Additional Features

The restaurant also offers a private room that accommodates about ten people.

Despite this, the generous portions, delicious food, and pleasant setting make it a worthwhile dining experience.
