Stepping into Tammara is like walking into a time capsule of childhood delights.

There’s a wall adorned in vintage metal biscuit tins that instantly whisk me to memories of sundry stores in old Penang.

It’s nostalgic, triggering a warm familiarity only Malaysians can understand.

The meticulous stacking of biscuit tins, reaching toward the ceiling, evokes fond childhood memories.

Every parent can recall the sheer delight on their child’s face when choosing from the variety of cookies and biscuits on display.

For Boomers, you know what I mean.

Instagram worthy Corners

Oh my, there are new Instagram-worthy spots!

A pair of twin handwoven rattan peacock chairs extended an irresistible invitation and beckoned.

I just had to sit, striking my best pose; I couldn’t help but marvel at the lavish décor surrounding me.

The air-conditioned dining area is lavishly decorated.

As I stepped out to the alfresco area, I saw that the terrace canopy was adorned with twinkling lights and vibrant batik.

It’s a sensory feast, every detail meticulously crafted to evoke a sense of grandeur and elegance.

As I tread the red carpet walkway, I couldn’t shake the feeling of royalty, waving and posing for photos,

Many diners felt the same.

I could see them posing on the red carpet in their best outfits, their right palm in a royal wave.

The expansive dining area accommodates up to 300 guests.

Some chose to sit on the deck to bask in the serene sunset view by the beach.

Others made their way towards the beach, enjoying the sea breeze.

The buffet line winds through the lush garden, leading guests to the picturesque seawall where the tantalizing Bakar Bakar station awaits.

Here, the aroma of grilled meat delights fills the air.

A majestic Kambing Golek (spit-roasted lamb) slowly rotates on the grille, tempting guests with its succulent aroma.

Alongside it, several plump Roasted Chickens await, their golden-brown skin glistening in the soft glow of the evening light.

It’s a feast for the senses, where every dish promises to delight and satisfy.

Yes, I got hungry by the minute and couldn’t wait to dig into the offering from the Bakar Bakar section.

Guests can enjoy a variety of skewered delights, including Chicken and Beef Satay, grilled fishball skewers, and Ikan Bakar wrapped in banana leaf parcels.

Each dish offers a unique flavor, showcasing Malaysia’s rich culinary heritage.

Loyal Fans of Tamarra

I eagerly joined the buffet line.

Everyone was excitedly waiting to indulge in the culinary feast.

Conversations with fellow patrons revealed a shared loyalty to the event.

Whether it was their first experience or a cherished tradition, everyone held a special connection to Tammara’s Ramadan buffet.

This event held a special place in their hearts, drawing them to return year after year to savor its magic.

As I entered the buffet hall, I was greeted by an impressive spread featuring over 160 items on the menu.

There was something to tantalize every palate, from Western delicacies to nostalgic kampong favorites.

The seafront location and convenient parking in the EPF building further enhanced the event’s appeal, ensuring accessibility for all guests.

As I made my way through the buffet line, I was overwhelmed by the sights and smells of the various dishes.

Traditional performances added to the ambiance, creating a lively and festive atmosphere that enhanced the dining experience.

The menu offered an array of flavors to satisfy every palate, from fragrant curries to succulent satay, crispy keropok, and tangy sambal.

Guests can enjoy delicious salads, sambal condiments, soups, noodles, fusion dishes, and specialty rice preparations along the buffet line.

Nasi Kerabu Udang Legenda

Nasi Kerabu Udang Legenda is Tamarra’s star dish.

It evokes the aromatic flavors of bustling Kelantanese markets from yesteryear.

The beautifully presented tray features blue-colored rice piled high with heaps of shredded white and purple cabbage and Kerisik (Toasted Coconut Paste).

A bright pink Bunga Kanta flower in full bloom stands at the center.

Salted egg halves and Solok Lada (stuffed green chilies) serve as garnishes, but all eyes are inevitably drawn to the appetizing giant freshwater prawn (Udang galah).

It’s one of my all-time favorite dishes to eat.

Start Your Nostalgia Warisan Buffet

There are so many ways to begin your dining experience.

Muslims break fast with dates and a relaxed, sweet drink.

It takes a lot of work to pace myself as there are 160 delicious items on the buffet lineup.

One of the buffet’s highlights was the variety of sambal, keropok, and jeruk, each boasting unique flavors and textures that left me spoilt for choice.

Gulai Kawah
When I got the Gulai Kawah, the Kepala Ikan Jenahak and Sup Gearbox (bone marrow soup) ran low.

However, there’s no need to worry at Tamarra as the chefs promptly refill the dishes.

Managing my appetite amidst the tempting spread of 160 items on the buffet lineup requires effort.

The Mains

Some of the dishes I sampled included Itik Salai Masak Lemak Cili Api (smoked duck in coconut-based curry), Ayam Goreng 7 Rempah Kampung (fried chicken with seven spices), and Nasi Briyani Kambing Manu Mastam (biryani rice with lamb).

While waiting for my dining companion, Joohwin, I selected some tasty mains for us, including curry shrimp, crabs, Ulam-ulaman, Kerabu, Sambal, and Satay.

The main courses include gulai and delicious curries skillfully prepared to entice the palate.

One noteworthy example is the Kelantanese dish Gulai Lemak Nangka Muda, which Joohwin enjoyed.

A new set of main courses will be introduced weekly to keep things exciting and fresh!

Local favorites such as Pasembour, Ais Kacang, Char Koay Teow, Sup Gear Box, and Murtabak showcased Penang’s diverse culinary heritage.

Largest Desserts Table

The exquisite dessert table was nearly groaning with the abundance of sweet treats and we girls loved it!

Traditional Malay kueh mueh, Serawa Pengat Pisang, Bubur Kacang Durian, and Cendol Durian beckon with various cakes and pastries.

The enticing spread of Instagrammable offerings included vibrant Onde Onde, jelly, ice cream, classic cookies, sweet treats, and fresh-cut fruits.

Remember to leave space for dessert.

JW and I went for another round the dessert table and tried.

The Bubur Kacang Durian so DELICIOUS!

I wish I had my stomach to my legs.

The perfect sweet conclusion to the meal would be keropok, ice cream after your Teh Tarik, and coffee.

Joohwin and I joined our friend Kak Aida and others and started another eating round.

I missed the Assam Laksa and Ais Kacang, a refreshing treat that provided a much-needed respite from the heat.

As I savored each bite, I felt grateful for the opportunity to experience such a culinary extravaganza.
