Red Brick Kitchen is an upscale dining establishment in a glasshouse café that gained significant traction thanks to a boost from social media.
I was pleasantly surprised when Steph and John decided to take me here for brunch.
Red Brick Kitchen is located at Taman Panorama Rapat Indah, close to Gunung Rapat.
More than a decade ago, I went on a local tour and headed to Gunung Rapat to buy its delicious Hiong Piah biscuits.
The location is easier to find with a navigation app to guide you. I was intrigued when Steph drove out and turned on her Waze.
For me, Ipoh has many hidden corners and surprisingly great food. The locals make great companions for a makan trip.

Red Brick Kitchen
Red Brick Kitchen is relatively new and has garnered interest from the cafe-hopping crowd, who are eager to experience new places.
During the weekends, the cafe is bustling with activity and packed to the rafters, making it prudent to secure a reservation, especially if you have a sizable group.
Our visit on a Wednesday was a breeze, with easy navigation and an abundance of parking space readily available.
Ample Parking
To access the parking area, you must enter the compound for EFM (Ever Fresh Mushroom Sdn Bhd) in an established residential area.
However, after the initial parking signage, there must be more indications for other parking spaces closer to the cafe.
Without specific markings, most drivers followed the lead of other cars as they drove in.
No parking fees, attendants, or covered walkways are available.
Wheelchair Access
The entrance to Red Brick Kitchen is at ground level, ensuring easy access for wheelchair users and those with mobility issues.
The EFM compound, situated outside the eatery, is also relatively flat, without any stairs.
Those with mobility concerns can drive in and park closer to Red Brick Kitchen café.
Walking To The Cafe
We opted to park at the entrance and stroll through the garden atmosphere, appreciating the lush landscaping set against the limestone hill of Gunung Rapat.
There are no covered parking areas, attendants, walkways with shade, or roofs.
For those specifically seeking Red Brick Kitchen, follow the small signs leading deeper inside the compound, past chalets, and a building housing a wedding studio.
Although the walk to Red Brick Kitchen from the car park is short, there are no covered walkways.
Consider bringing an umbrella in case of rain.
Ambiance
The glasshouse of Red Brick Kitchen boasts a picture-perfect glass house exterior, and the charming interior seemed slightly more compact when we were there.
With only one dining space available, it cannot be quiet and feel snug when the place is abuzz during peak hours.
A table of seniors joined later, and their loud, raucous laughter was certainly overwhelming when the cafe ran at full capacity.
Given the absence of soft furnishings and the glass walls and roof, the noise level may escalate further when the restaurant is at full capacity.
Weekday dining is lovely; the one dining space looks welcoming with a few tables of diners.
Red Brick Kitchen Menu
The menu offers many distinctive items uncommon in other cafes.
You’ll discover enticing options like key lime pie, scallop breakfast, Peruvian chicken, watercress and mussel risotto, and a mouthwatering roast beef sandwich.
The drinks menu is equally expansive, featuring categories like soda lemonade, non-coffee, sparkling beverages, and refreshing smoothies.
The menu promises delightful gastronomic escapades – for a hearty lunch with pals or a romantic dinner date.
With fans whirring and the aircon humming, the ambiance is an inviting embrace, a snug haven, making every visit to Red Brick Kitchen a delightful escapade.
As we stepped inside, the enticing aroma of pesto immediately captured my senses, sealing the deal for me.
The green goddess pasta dish was stunningly vibrant visually. I sat down and side-eyed it at the neighboring table.
Watching the diner tossing the pasta only intensified my hunger.
While there were plenty of meat options for pesto, carbonara, or aglio olio, and the menu did a good job outlining both spicy and vegetarian options.
I ordered the pesto pasta with chicken for breakfast.
Interestingly, this isn’t the first time I’ve had this dish for breakfast!
While waiting for my food, Steph and John encouraged me to wander outside to explore.
Boy, was I glad; the verdant beauty outside certainly goes unnoticed amidst the culinary indulgence.

What We Ordered
For the three of us, we ordered:
- Smashed Avocado Toast RM32
- Grilled Chicken and Mushroom Pesto RM26
- Big Breakfast RM29

Portions for all the mains are reasonable.
However, my Grilled Chicken and Mushroom Pesto portion was generous enough to share among two or three small eaters.
Confession: I didn’t share and finished everything by myself.

Menu Pricing
While I am unfamiliar with Ipoh café prices, the items we ordered are on par with those in Penang.
Regarding food quality, the taste and portions are closer to what one would find in KL.
The bill came close to RM139, including a 10% service charge for what we ordered.
Positive Notes on Service at Red Brick Kitchen
Red Brick Kitchen operates with a dedicated team.
The barista station and kitchen are lined up against the wall.
The kitchen boasts several chefs, and the manager and other wait staff attentively handle the tables, contributing to well-coordinated service.
The food, including my delicious pesto pasta, was served within 20 minutes during our visit.
I know better than ordering a risotto cooked from scratch and taking much longer cooking time.
We found the service efficient and welcoming.
Note: It’s important to note that free drinking water is not available.
Conclusion
In conclusion, Red Brick Kitchen stands out for its notably generous portions of pasta and well-crafted main dishes, which cater to those with a moderate appetite.
However, the pricing of beverages, particularly the iced cappuccino at RM12 and iced lemon tea at RM9, may need to align with the quality offered.
A drawback is the absence of self-serve drinking water, which is not even listed as sky juice on the menu.
If you love cafe hopping in Ipoh, anticipate spending around RM35 per person for a meal and beverage, potentially surpassing RM50, mainly if dessert is on your agenda.

Getting Around Ipoh
There are two distinct parts of Ipoh: Old Town and New Town. Attractions in Old Town are easily accessible on foot, allowing us to stroll from one location to another, thanks to their close proximity.
For more distant places, such as the cave temple, we opted for Grab.
In Ipoh, Grab is widely available and offers affordable transportation options.
Getting to Red Brick Kitchen
The Red Brick Kitchen is situated in a secluded area in Ipoh.
Reaching it from the city center takes approximately 19 minutes (covering 9.7 kilometers) via Jln Sultan Nazrin Shah. For this trip, we drove.
