Most of us crave that perfect cheesy cheeseburger and wish that we can find it next door.
Well, at least in the late evenings when I feel peckish.
I don’t know about you, but a cheeseburger seems the perfect midnight snack if you don’t count the calories.
That’s why I sometimes go to a 24-hour McD to eat this, but it’s never cheesy enough.

What is a Cheeseburger?
A cheeseburger is a hamburger topped with cheese.
Unlike your typical Ramly Burger, eggs aren’t used to wrap around the beef patty in these American-style cheeseburgers.
Traditionally, the slice of cheese is placed on top of the grilled beef patty.
The cheese is usually added to the cooking hamburger patty as it cooks to
allow the cheese to melt.
Already you are salivating at this thought.
I do that too sometimes when I write a food post.
All American Cheeseburger
Getting the patty right is what makes a great burger.
The key to a perfect cheeseburger comes straight from the butcher.
It is beef.
Simply put nothing can replace the robust taste of a beef burger.
The simple, primal basics of meat, salt, and fire give burgers that irresistible edge.
We are inevitably attracted to charcoal-fired grills and marinated grilled meat.
You can see the flame-grilled beef patty with gooey melted cheese – and salivate.
The condiments to complete the ensemble
- Crisp lettuce leaves
- Sliced tomato
- Sliced red onion
- Crinkle-cut Dill pickle
- Yellow mustard
- Ketchup
The All-American Cheeseburger has a non-negotiable element: American cheese.
It’s not the wispy wrap individual singles.
It would help if you got the sliced cheese from the deli counter.
I assure you this tastes better as it melts slower and more evenly.
Tips: Mix some chopped pickles, ketchup, and mayo for Thousand Island dressing.
What is the Ultimate Cheesy Cheeseburger?
The Ultimate Cheeseburger is a signature cheeseburger sold at Jack in the Box.
It consists of two beef patties with American and Swiss-style cheeses, ketchup, mustard, and Mayo-Onion sauce on a sesame seed bun.
In 2002, ketchup, mustard, and Mayo-Onion replaced mayonnaise; the cheese slices went from three to two.
In 2008, the burger was added to the Phoood Hall of Fame.
The merits of a fried egg on a cheeseburger
Cheeseburgers, or, more likely, hamburgers, have become canvases for chefs to paint on.
They have become so varied that I can’t understand the ingredients, condiments, and sauces anymore.
A fried egg was once a fantastic idea.
When you look at the hamburger’s construction at specialty cafes, you will know that no ingredients are off-limits.
From the choice of meats to the cooking style.
At the height of the gourmet burger craze, you probably saw or tasted burgers with a slab of roasted pork and a mound of coleslaw on top.
Occasionally, it’s nice to try the specialty burger joints for the fries and drinks.
This burger can include variations in structure, ingredients, and composition.
KGB (Killer Gourmet Burgers)
There is a difference in premium pricing at specialty burger joints.
The beef patties are made using 100% Australian Grass-Fed beef to ensure good quality and flavor.
The meat is juicier and tastes sweet and caramelized as these are flame-grilled patties instead of pan-grilled (Ramly burgers).
We tried a few at KGB The Gardens Mid Valley.
My friends ordered a few varieties, and I only remember the Double Animal (RM21.50), which was 2x crust beef with a sharp cheddar shake sauce and caramelized onions.
My friend hated the onion and started to pick these out and pass them over to me.
I had the Truffle’d Swiss Mushroom (RM21.90), which featured Portobello mushrooms sautéed in richly infused truffle oil, Swiss cheese, and a juicy beef patty.
I also ordered their truffle fries (RM12.50), which are heavy with that beautiful truffle fragrance.
Yes, I love the intense, earthy, slightly garlicky, deep musky aroma.
I remember my friend saying, get that funky smell away from me!
It was the most memorable dining experience, except for my roommate, who had horror written on her face as I packed extra Truffle Fries back to the hotel.

Non-Halal Pork Burgers – Spades Burger
This burger stall started as a street food stall selling pork burgers.
The menu is extensive – with more than 15 choices of burgers and sides to choose from.
The first time I went to eat, I stared at the menu board for a good 15 minutes.
You can get a simple basic cheeseburger or even one with the works, double pork patty, cheddar, cheese crisp, sautéed pork belly on top, pineapple ring, you name it.
All this smothered with Spade’s Hot Sauce.
It’s also one of the few places in Penang where you’ll get bacon on your burger.
Mushroom Burger – Spades Burger
My best bet is at Spade’s Burger if you want to customize your burger.
Finally, I settled on a big fat mushroom burger.
I can’t remember the name of the burgers.
They change it all the time.
The earthy deep-fried panko-crusted portobello mushroom, sealed with a layer of cheddar, stir-fried shiitake, and enoki did it for me.
SOLD.
Just eat it fast, as the panko crust will become soggy.
Spades have three meat options (pork, beef patty, or chicken fillet) and are very popular with those who don’t take beef.

Charcoal Burger Buns:
The only thing I didn’t know about fancy burger joints is the use of Charcoal Burger Buns.
It’s a personal thing. I like white bread. White bread will not kill me.
Once, I toasted frozen bread at a friend’s place.
I ate that for a few days, then decided to thaw the bread before toasting. Yuck!
Black molds are growing. The bread was in the freezer for over three months.
Since then, I have stuck to my sliced white bread and burger buns.
Sauces:
I’m a purist and prefer to eat burger patties that I can taste without everything being smothered in a mixture of dipping sauces.
If you like every sauce available on your meat, try a Subway and have a blast.
There are 11 types of sauces here.
I only have a ranch, mustard, and black pepper crack when I eat my sub.
What is your favorite place to get a cheeseburger? Please share with me; I might go there and eat NEXT!
