You can’t have a Ramadan buffet without the lamb. The Kambing Golek at The Tamarra is tender, perfectly spiced, and carved right in front of you.
Ramadan Buffet Penang 2026 – Whenever the fasting month rolls around, my WhatsApp groups start buzzing with the same question, “Dory, where should we buka puasa this year?”
We all know the drill. We aren’t looking for those RM200+ “prestige” hotel buffets where you’re basically paying for the lobby’s air-con.
But we also don’t want a random spread where the food runs out by 7:30 PM.
We want the sweet spot; Under RM150 nett, easy parking, a proper surau, and most importantly tender juicy Kambing Golek and fresh seafood.
For the 2026 season, I’ve done the “detective work” so you don’t have to.
I’ve personally tucked into the first two on this list (my “tried and tested” picks!), and for the rest, I’ve scrubbed the menus and verified the pricing to make sure they’re actually worth your ringgit.

The Tamarra by Irama Dining (George Town)
Price: RM148 nett (Adult) | Status: Personally Reviewed
If you value a bit of “space to breathe,” Tamarra by Irama Dining is my top pick. You aren’t squeezed into a stuffy ballroom; you get a gorgeous George Town sea breeze and sunset views.
The Vibe: Choose indoor glasshouse seating or alfresco on the sea deck. The layout uses artificial grass, safe for kids and seniors as there are no slippery tiles.
Breaking fast as the sun dips below the horizon. The floor-to-ceiling glass panels at The Tamarra offer the best sunset seat in George Town.
Highlights: Don’t skip the Wagyu Roti John or the Nasi Kerabu with Udang Galah. The juicy Kambing Golek is carved live and is always a hit.
Parking: FREE (RELA-managed open car park). No tickets, no fuss.
Prayers: Private surau on-site for Maghrib or Terawih.
Olive Tree Hotel (Bayan Lepas)
Price: RM140 nett (Adult) | Status: Personally Reviewed
Olive Tree Hotel is the “Old Reliable” for the factory crowd. For 2026, their theme is “Alunan Nostalgia,” and it is as consistent as ever.
The Vibe: Level 6 ballroom with powerful AC. Retro 60s/70s decor this year makes for great photos.
Step back in time: The Level 6 ballroom has been transformed with a groovy 60s/70s vibe. It’s fully air-conditioned and the retro decor makes it the most Instagrammable spot for family photos this year.
Highlights: Their Kambing Bakar Nasi Mandy is the star. There is a dedicated dessert corner with soft-serve ice cream and popcorn.
Parking: Paid (Multi-level). Use Touch ‘n Go, credit cards, or debit cards. Smooth, but remember to tap in.
Prayers: Dedicated surau on Level 4—spacious and clean.
Gurney Bay Hotel, A PARKROYAL Partner Hotel (Gurney Drive)

Pro-Tips for Ramadan Buffet Penang 2026
Since early bird prices are all snapped up, your new goal is securing the best experience. Here is how to handle your Iftar like a pro:
The Golden 30 Rule: Aim to arrive by 6:30 PM. This gives you time to navigate the parking at Olive Tree or catch the buggy at Bertam Resort before the 7:00 PM rush.
The Pre-Azan Strategy: By 6:55 PM, the queues for the Kambing Golek and grilled seafood start to grow. Head to the carving station just before the Azan prayers. You will beat the 7:15 PM rush while others are still settling in.
Private Surau for Terawih Prayers: Use the on-site suraus to pray comfortably. At The Tamarra, the facilities are excellent, allowing you to stay for Terawih before heading back for a second round of dessert and Teh Tarik.
Traffic Real-Talk: If you are heading to Iconic Hotel or Olive Tree during the work week, double your travel time. The rush hour in Bayan Lepas and Bukit Mertajam is significant. Don’t let a jam be the reason you miss the first round of seafood.
Happy Iftar, Penang. Which one are you booking first?
