Rutin Restaurant 乐田 has got to be one of the busiest restaurants at New World Park in Penang.
It draws a steady crowd from morning till night, especially among seniors and the post-exercise crowd looking for a comforting breakfast set.
After five visits, I can safely say that Rutin grows on you—one Fish Soup Noodle at a time.

What’s the Rutin Routine?
Crowds. Comfort. Carbs.
Step inside and you’ll find an energetic buzz that feels like a local secret—except everyone knows about it.
From elderly aunties to gym-goers still in activewear, the place runs like a well-oiled machine.
Regulars tuck into hearty meals, and if you visit often enough, you’ll start recognizing faces.
More Than Just Another Chinese Restaurant in New World Park
Rutin is not your average Chinese eatery.
A glance at the well-used menu reveals a surprisingly diverse spread—from dim sum and noodles to pasta, steamboat, and even pizza.
Yes, you can order Nasi Lemak in several styles!
It’s a great place to bring out-of-town guests for both Malaysian classics and fusion creations.
Pulling off such a broad menu is no small feat, but Rutin Restaurant manages to deliver on taste more often than not.
The Signature Dish – Fish Noodle Soup
My first proper meal here was a Christmas bunch with Paul and his girlfriend.
The outstanding dish?
Rutin Restaurant’s Signature Fish Soup with a choice of noodles—generous portions, neatly served.
Since then, I’ve returned for breakfast, tea, and everything in between.
This soup is a crowd favorite.
Nearly every table has a bowl, and you have two glorious versions to choose from,
- Spicy and Sour Soup – Bold and herbaceous with a kick of lemongrass. You can adjust the spice level to taste.
- Superior Milky Soup – Creamy, comforting, and flavorful.
I prefer the Superior Milky Soup, especially because it includes yam, which adds an earthy sweetness that elevates the dish.
Paul agrees—and judging by the buzz around us, we’re not alone.
Breakfast Sets – Kopitiam-Style, But Better
I’ve returned several times just for the soft-boiled eggs, crispy roti bakar, and strong local coffee.
These breakfast sets are satisfying and cheaper than at many traditional kopitiams.
The roti bakar is especially good—crispy on the outside, slathered with butter.
My only wish?
That they’d cut them into toast soldiers for easier dunking into the soft egg.
Why Rutin Grows on You
There’s something comforting about sitting at my usual table, watching a mostly Chinese crowd enjoy their food, and peeking at dishes on the next table.
Despite several visits, I hadn’t written a review—until now. Why? Because Rutin slowly becomes part of your weekly routine.
That Fish Soup – Worth Craving
When I say this is one of the best fish soups I’ve had, I mean it.
The Superior Milky Soup tastes like it’s been simmered for hours with fish bones and golden fried garlic.
The fish chunks? Juicy, flaky, and fresh.
My foodie friend Ketty recommended it, saying she and her husband shared a bowl.
I thought it was a 2 pax order!
Boy was I was surprised when it arrived in a wide bowl with a burner underneath.
But don’t worry—it’s not too much.
The bowl’s shallow and I finished it all by myself.
Chole if your reading this, I can totally picture you doing the fist pump YESSSS!!!
That creamy soup, with subtle ginger notes and the sweet hint of yam?
Chef’s kiss.
Comfort food with flair.
