Kow Low Wantan Mee: Fat Wantons, Saucy Noodles

Based on Google reviews, Kow Low Wantan Mee is a promising spot.

A staple of Malaysian cuisine, wantan mee is enjoyed any time of day.

Penangites think nothing of eating from roadside hawkers or kopitiam (coffee shops).

I’ve been a regular at a wantan mee shop on Lebuh Acheh for years.

Just recently, I ventured to Lebuh Carnarvon and discovered Weng Kei Wantan Mee.

Today, we found Kow Low Wantan Mee (高佬云吞面).

You can’t miss it as it is right in front of the pedestrian crossing.

Kow Low is renowned for its authentic Hong Kong-style wan tan mee.

It serves thin, springy egg noodles that absorb the umami-rich soy-based sauce in the dry version.

Alternatively, the soup version comes with a flavorful broth.

Wontons

The wantan dumplings here are exceptional.

Packed with a whole prawn and minced pork, they are generously filled.

They are fat, plump, and delicious!

They resemble the size of a siew mai.

In contrast, other stalls typically offer versions that are more wrapper-heavy, with just a pad of minced pork.

The shop’s décor reminds me of Hong Kong’s hustle and bustle, with a cozy, vibrant atmosphere.

Tourists often stop by to check out the stall and walk in to order.

Their tasty noodles, dumplings, and braised chicken feet are customer favorites.

Kow Low Wan Tan Mee is a must-visit if you’r looking for an authentic, delicious noodles in George Town, Penang.
