I was surprised to find Bari-Uma, Hiroshima’s largest ramen chain, at Hong Kong International Airport.
The name “Bari-Uma,” which translates to “super tasty” in Japanese, immediately caught my attention.
Bari-Uma is famous for its “No. 1 super-rich pork bone broth,” homemade ramen, and thick-cut, flame-grilled chashu.
It is also known for its delicious pork-flavored soup, which was the perfect warm and filling meal before my departure.
As my holiday in Hong Kong ended, I was at the airport craving something different other than Cantonese cuisine.
Bari-Uma Ramen
That’s when I spotted Bari-Uma, a Hiroshima-based ramen chain.
The ramen outlet had the widest frontage and the shortest queue, which was perfect for me.
What sets Bari-Uma apart is its homemade ramen, super-rich pork bone broth, and thick-cut flame-grilled Chashu (Japanese Braised Pork Belly).
These unique features make Bari-Uma the perfect choice for a hearty meal to satisfy me during my flight home to Penang.
The restaurant’s location in the Departures Hall’s restricted area ensures a quieter dining experience, making it a convenient choice for a pre-flight meal.
As I approached Bari-Uma, the inviting aroma of the rich pork bone broth wafted towards me.
I couldn’t resist and ordered their signature ramen.
The large bowl contained a broth that was both richly aromatic and deeply fragrant.
The first sip of broth was like a warm hug – savory, rich, and deeply satisfying.
The noodles were perfectly chewy.
The thick-cut flame-grilled Chashu looked incredibly appetizing.
When I bit in, the Chashu was tender and flavorful, with a slight smoky char from the grilling.

It was so delicious—a true masterpiece of tenderness and flavor.
Each slice is thick, soft, and smoky, simply melting in your mouth and leaving you craving more with every heavenly bite.
I wished I had ordered more than just one slice to fully indulge in this divine pork perfection.
The second highlight of my ramen experience was the soft-boiled eggs, also known as Ramen Eggs (Ajitsuke Tamago).
These eggs were jammy, perfectly prepared, and bursting with flavor.
Their velvety texture and rich taste added a delightful contrast to the savory broth and chewy noodles, making every spoonful simply delicious.
Ramen Noodles
Although I can’t customize the firmness of the noodles, their chewiness adds a delightful dimension to my dining experience.
Each slurp of these chewy noodles is a symphony of flavor and texture.
Accompaniments
My ramen was served with a side of blanched and salted fresh edamame, providing a satisfying green complement.
The seeds take on a soft, creamy texture and a taste similar to lima beans, offering a refreshing contrast to the bold flavors of the ramen.
However, it’s important to note that the pod isn’t edible and should not be eaten.
Nonetheless, they still contribute to the overall enjoyment of your meal.

Overall, the service was efficient, with meals served hot and promptly.
Price
Prices at HKIA are not cheap, and my ramen bowl set costs HK$125.
This included a bowl of ramen, a cup of edamame, and a water bottle.
Additionally, some ramen orders come with complimentary soft drinks or water and edamame, adding extra value to your meal.
Overall Experience
Bari-Uma ramen surpasses expectations for airport food and rivals the quality of ramen found in Japan.
It’s definitely worth trying, especially considering the slightly cheaper options available in the food court.
Conveniently located right after immigration, Bari-Uma is suitable for a quick, satisfying meal before boarding.
The restaurant boasts a better reputation compared to others in the same area, despite occasional service issues.
However, overall feedback on food quality has been positive.
This should reassure you that you’re likely to have a satisfying dining experience at Bari-Uma.
As I finished my meal, I felt content and ready for my long flight ahead.
Bari-Uma not only satisfied my hunger but also added a wonderful culinary memory to my Hong Kong trip.
If you ever find yourself at Hong Kong International Airport, I highly recommend trying Bari-Uma. It truly lived up to its name—”super tasty!”
