Spicy, crispy, and dangerously addictive.
It’s more than a curry puff stall.
It’s a piece of Penang’s everyday life.

How It All Began
The story started in 2003 at Astaka Jalan Kurau in Chai Leng Park, Perai — on the mainland side of Penang.
Back then, Mutiara Karipap sold only three fillings: potato, chicken, and sardine.
They were lucky to sell ten curry puffs a day, but word spread quickly. The taste spoke for itself.
By 2008, regular customers were begging them to open a stall on the island.
So they did.
The new outlet first popped up beside Seng Huat Café, then moved to its current spot with free parking and plenty of regulars.
Easy to find, easier to fall in love with.
Penang Snack Shack
People talk.
And that’s how Mutiara Karipap became a Penang food story.
The smell of hot curry puffs hits you before you even spot the signboard.
Office workers, families, and curious tourists all know this place.
One bite is all it takes, and most end up coming back the next day.
The stall grew because the owners listened.
Customers wanted new flavours, and they delivered.
What started with three humble fillings now has fourteen.
Each one better than the last.
14 Fillings That Made Mutiara Karipap Famous
Every filling has its fans.
Potato, chicken, sardine, egg, crabstick, sausage, beef, squid, cockles, prawns, mutton, venison, sweet potato…
And the ultimate All-In version, the One puff that packs every flavour.
Before the pandemic, they sold between 800 and 1,000 curry puffs a day.
That’s a lot of happy faces and even more satisfied stomachs.
The Secret That Keeps Everyone Coming Back
It’s all in the size.
Each Mutiara Karipap fits perfectly in your palm, not tiny two-bite curry puffs like you usually see.
The crust is light, crispy, and cracks just right with a soft crunch.
Inside, it’s piping hot, packed with generous chunks of curried goodness.
Nothing beats standing there, watching each puff being wrapped and fried right before your eyes.
The smell alone could make anyone stop in their tracks.
