The Ombak Ramadan Dulang Set is a steal at RM88.00 net for sharing.
I felt the set was big enough for a family of small eaters.
We couldn’t finish the Biryani With Peas and Raisins.
The Biryani is a must-have for Indian food lovers — its gorgeous Basmati Rice cooked with herbs, spices, green peas, and raisins.
I was more than excited to see the green peas.
Some of you know that John and I share a love for Mushy Peas – fresh green peas cooked until soft with butter, lemon juice, seasoned to taste, AND mashed until mushy.
The peas served are whole and used as a garnish over the traditional choice of rice — Basmati.
Basmati is long-grain rice with a perfumy fragrance and nutty flavor that cooks lighter and doesn’t thicken.
You can see each grain drier than other varieties – this dish from becoming heavy.
The yellow color is from the addition of turmeric and garam masala, ginger, and garlic.
The starters are traditional Ulams (Salads) with Sambal Belacan.
The mains that goes so well with the Biryani Rice meat dishes with various spiciness.
The taste differs from cooking methods, ingredients, and local aromatic herbs and spices for their unique or signature dishes.
Traditionally, Malay food is defined as a variety of local cuisine with a strong and unique local identity within the Malay community.

Ombak Ramadan Dulang Set Review
If you’re a small eater and get overwhelmed by buffets, you will appreciate the Ombak Ramadan Dulang Set, perfect for folks like us.
Don’t like to line up for your buffet food?
Like family-style eating?
Then you will enjoy this homey presentation – without you doing any of the work like marketing, food prep, cooking, and washing up <faints!>
I started with the Buah Kurma (Dates) to “buka selera makan” (open your appetite).
I enjoyed the Satay Daging/Ayam (Beef/Chicken Satay) dipped in the creamy peanut sauce, just perfect, not spicy for kids.
The Sup Ayam (Chicken Soup) is served piping hot, flavorsome without tender shared pieces of breast meat, carrots, and potatoes. I finished that quickly.
Of course, with all Malay cuisine, you got start with the Ulam Ulaman Dengan Sambal Belacan (A side dish of fresh salad with Malaysian Chili Paste)
The Biryani Rice is great – I love the green peas and raisins; I think if you bring your children along, they will love this. Dish.
If you love the taste of fennel, this is your dish Ayam Masak Jintan (Chicken with Fennel Seeds), tender flavourful pieces of chicken.
Fish lovers will enjoy the Gulai Ikan Dengan Bendi (Fish Curry with Okra}, with 2 large fish fillets and sweet young Okra.
The Chinese style Sayur Sayuran Pelbagai Jenis (Stir-Fried Assorted Vegetables)
It is a nice touch.
There is something for everyone to enjoy, the non-spicy dishes.
The last two mains are a toss to find the best – I love both but judging from the portions I took, I would have to confess; the Mutton won!
Kambing Varuval (Mutton Varuval -Malaysian Indian-Style Goat Curry) is not gamey but is flavourful, tender bit just a little bit in it – perfect just the way I enjoy. Mutton when it is cooked right!
Good job, Chef!
Who can resist Sambal Udang Petai (Shrimp and Stink Bean in Sambal Sauce)? The beans are large and plentiful and just so nice.
The Bubur Pulut Hitam (Black Glutinous Rice Dessert) (full-size bowl!) dessert is best.
You know the old aunty and old Nyonya who tell everyone that they don’t take sugar? and always ask for their Bubur, Pengat, Air Kacang, and Chendul to be really sweet?
The Chefs got the Bubur Pulut Hitam just nice – creamy (read full of santan, oh yeah!) and not too sweet.
The little Assorted Cakes all 9 pieces are a soft sponge and feel so light to finish off the meal with a hot Teh Tarik.
Happy Days!
