When my Balinese friend offered to take me to a healing center that uses sound waves, I was all ears.
I-Made said in all seriousness, “I will bring you to see the Pyramids of Chi Bali here in Ubud.”
I was intrigued to see the Great Pyramid of Giza replicated with two built-to-scale pyramids.

The Science of Sound Healing
Ubud’s most remarkable wellness center, the Pyramids of Chi Bali, is a place of sound healing.
It is on a tranquil little knoll of lush paddy fields accessible through narrow, winding streets.
The pyramids are a minuscule version of the ancient Egyptians’ mysterious structures thousands of years ago.
Amidst flowering frangipani, lazy stray dogs, and gentle ripples, these celestial structures look remarkably benign and at “home.”
I wandered barefoot around beautiful open grounds, bordered by lush countryside, taking deep breaths of fresh air.
We sipped some lovely warm tea to relax and listened to the cosmic “briefing” of what was in store.
Meeting the Founder of the Pyramids of Chi Bali
Based on a vision that Peter McIntosh received through deep meditation, he and his wife Lyn set out to build the twin pyramids.
Listening to Peter retell the inspiring tale is jaw-dropping.
From finding a paddy field on a knoll to securing the end financing – each project step seemed to be guided and blessed by mysterious forces as things slowly fell into place.
It was a test of patience and faith, and after a remarkable journey of challenges, the center finally opened four years later, in 2017.
Phi of the universe
All the Ancient Pyramids worldwide are built according to the Golden Ratio, the “Sacred Geometry” or Phi, which is present in the universe, all of nature, creation, and the human body, down to our DNA.
I once read that our DNA has sound-like bubbles whizzing around with a frequency of a few terahertz or a billion times higher than a dog can hear!
This may offer a possible explanation as to why the pyramids mirror the universe’s harmonic structure.
Hence it can harmonize, balance, and “reset” our body when we experience it.
Even though Volcano scares were ongoing last year, almost 8,000 visitors came here to experience the “magic” through the design and alignment replication to harness the now-recognized ‘Pyramid Power.’
Pyramids of Chi Bali – The session
I was ready to take in the sacred design, magnetic positioning, and ancient sounds and tap into the unmistakable energy that already exists in Bali in the surreal, magical environment of Ubud.
We were led to the Pyramid of the Sun.
its interior was designed to support a state of total relaxation: dark brown inverted walls and warm wooden floors with low lighting.
Ancient instruments were laid out in the center of the room: enormous gongs, large pow-wow drums, Himalayan bowls, bells, and even the didgeridoo.
These instruments are created as tools for healing and not for their musical qualities!
I chose one of the floor mattresses, mindful of being away from the gong. There is a pillow for my head and a bolster for my knees.
We were told to lie flat on our back, legs slightly apart and palms facing upwards. I covered my eyes with a small beanbag.
There is a faint, comforting scent of aromatic oils.
We were lulled to a profoundly restful state, beginning with breathing counts. I dozed off effortlessly.
Pyramids of Chi Bali – The experience
Oddly enough, I received no visions, dreams, or flashbacks. I awoke to the sounds of deep snoring from someone on the next mattress.
There was soft crying in the distant corner.
I saw one of the gong masters comforting someone.
The experience for each individual is different, from feeling relaxed, totally energized, or even emotional.
I came out of the session feeling refreshed and relaxed. It was the best deep sleep I had in years.
The sounds and frequencies relax the body’s cells, muscles, and energy systems.
This healing method is an effective and enjoyable way to rebalance and harmonize inner health into a healthy state of vibration.
Later that evening, at dinner, we shared our experiences.
I sleepily remarked to I-Made that the center of my left palm felt strangely warm.
With deadpan seriousness, I-Made commented, “That’s just a hot flash from menopause.”
I felt the heated full force of the power ball up in my fist as I punched I-Made with a “Take That!” to the amusement of our friends.
The ripple effect of this gift of therapeutic vibrations and frequencies has impacted our small group in more ways than we could foresee.
