The signature Char Siew that keeps everyone coming back.
Updated: 17 November 2025
“TNR by Sean & Angie has the best melt-in-your-mouth Char Siew in PJ,” Wendy teased as we drove around SS2 Petaling Jaya.
I could already taste it: glossy slices of caramelised pork, smoky charred edges, soft, sticky, and tender in every bite.

What Is Char Siew?
Char Siew is a sweet, savoury Chinese-style roasted pork dish loved across Malaysia and Singapore.
Pork is marinated in honey, sugar, oyster sauce, soy sauce, and Chinese cooking wine, then roasted to a sticky glaze with that signature red tint.
In Malaysia, a plate of Char Siew often defines a bowl of Wonton Mee—it can make or break the dish.
A Brief History of TNR by Sean & Angie
Founded by Mr. KC Ong in 2009, the recipes at TNR by Sean & Angie are family-tested and perfected over years.
The Char Siew mastery runs in the Ong family:
- Famous Seremban Favourites – owned by Mr. Bill Khoo, cousin of KC Ong’s wife
- Roast Paradise Singapore – co-owned by Bill Khoo’s nephew, Kai Koh
This family connection explains why the Char Siew here tastes so consistently good.
Where Is TNR by Sean & Angie?
You’ll find it in the heart of SS2 Petaling Jaya.
The shop is now rebranded as TNR The Real Charsiew by Sean & Angie, but the food that made it famous remains unchanged.
Where to Park at TNR by Sean & Angie
Parking can be tricky in SS2 Petaling Jaya, especially during lunch hours.
We got lucky when a car pulled out right in front of the shop.
Tips:
- Arrive slightly before or after peak lunch hours
- Expect roadside parking along Jalan SS 2/6
- Weekends are busiest; plan accordingly
A Hungry Afternoon at TNR by Sean & Angie
By 3.30 PM, my stomach was growling.
I’d flown in from Jakarta that morning and had Hakka Mee Bakso for breakfast (yes, really).
Wendy waited for me in SS2 Petaling Jaya, equally hungry.
Inside, the shop is simple: grey cement walls, practical tables, and chairs.
The air-conditioning is a welcome touch—the food here takes all the attention anyway.
Late afternoon at TNR—just missed the Siew Yoke rush.
The lunch crowd had just left, so we walked in easily. Wendy placed our order: Char Siew and Hakka Noodles.
The Star of the Show: Char Siew
Premium Char Siew fresh from the charcoal tandoor.
The plate arrived glistening.
Slices were half lean, half tender fat are perfectly balanced.
The sticky, caramelised glaze with charred edges made every bite a smoky-sweet delight.
The best Char Siew always balances:
- Lean and fat layers
- Caramelised glaze
- Smoky charred edges
- Tender, juicy texture without greasiness
Wendy’s uncle always orders half fatty, half lean.
One glance at the gooey, glossy surface and you can tell it’s going to be good.
Signature Premium Char Siew
Mixed roasts at TNR, including signature Char Siew.
The premium Char Siew is roasted in a charcoal-fired tandoor oven.
Cuts closer to the fire get deeper char marks and more smoky aroma.
The slices landed warm, juicy, and glistening with caramelised glaze.
The smoky edges paired with tender meat made every bite irresistible.
Siew Yoke Roast Pork Belly (If You’re Lucky)
“The Siew Yoke isn’t roasted—it’s smoked!” Wendy explained.
Hickory wood charcoal gives both the Siew Yoke and Roast Chicken a richer, deeper flavour.
We missed it that day—it sold out by mid-afternoon.
Wendy assures me the crackly skin, juicy fat, and tender meat are worth the wait.
Original Hakka Noodles (RM13)
Original Hakka Noodles—springy, simple, and satisfying
The Hakka Noodles are flat yellow noodles tossed in soy sauce and lard oil, topped with:
- Minced pork

Springy, savoury, and perfect alone or paired with Char Siew.
Drinks
- Iced Cincau – RM3.80
- V-Soy Soya Bean – RM3.30
- Iced Chinese Tea – RM0.70
