Kopitiam Breakfast Croissant at Thong Kee Cafe Sea Park

Thong Kee Cafe in Sea Park, Petaling Jaya is a Hainanese kopitiam originating from Bentong, Pahang.

This coffee shop serves excellent toasts, croissant, donuts with Hainan Coffee and tea which complements the other the stalls for breakfast and lunch.

My first experience was at the original Thong Kee Kopitiam in Bentong, Pahang. By the time I reached the kopitiam, the last Kaya Butter Croissant was sold out.

It is that popular, I kid you not.

I was visiting Petaling Jaya and Wendy suggested a breakfast stop for Kaya Butter Croissant, I was game.

Little did I know I was so lucky to try another Thong Kee outlet in Sea Park, Petaling Jaya.

Thong Kee Kopitiam opened its first outlet in Bentong, followed by other outlets

  • Sea Park
  • Glenmarie
  • Pandan Indah
  • Kepong
  • Cheras

What is Thong Kee Cafe’s specialty?

Unlike other Hainanese breakfast eateries, Thong Kee’s specialty is its unique home baked pillowy soft Hainanese Bread and Croissant.

Thong Kee’s homemade Croissants are what make them truly unique. These Croissants are surprisingly rich, buttery, flaky and super soft on the inside.

What to order at Thong Kee?

The must order food are

  • Kaya + Butter Croissant
  • Ham + Egg Croissant
  • Cheese + Ham Croissant
  • Cheese + Ham + Egg Croissant

What’s the coffee like?

The Hainanese coffee is strong, super thick and aromatic. I prefer their “Cham” which is a combination of coffee and tea with milk.

This is absolutely delicious and unbeatable value for money at RM2.20 for a small cup.

The Original Thong Kee Kopitiam

I was at the original Thong Kee Kopitiam in Bentong, Pahang. The local boys always order iced coffee “tapau” as it is larger in size to the cup version.

Thong Kee Hainan Bread

The bread is served as Roti Bakar or Steam. There is the white bread or wholemeal bread to choose from.

The Fillings for Croissant and Thong Kee Hainan Bread

Butter + Kaya
I think this makes for the best version for a rich buttery taste with a mild sweet green pandan Kaya.

For those who enjoy the taste of vegans you can opt for margarine instead of butter.

This is sliced cheddar cheese.

This is local ham.

This is a folded Omelette.

What’s the verdict of the Kopitiam Breakfast Croissant at Thong Kee Cafe Sea Park?

Thong Kee’s review from locals and friends is simply delicious. They might not go into describing the texture and taste apart from saying,

” The toasts and croissants are really good.”

For me, the croissants were exceptional – Crispy on the outside soft and buttery inside. You get that satisfying crunch when you munch into it.

The toasts and croissants are really good. My personal favorite is the simple Cheese + Ham + Egg Croissant (RM7.90)

This hearty breakfast goes well with the thick, aromatic and creamy “Cham” (RM2.20) which Thong Kee is famous for. The coffee/tea concoction is perfect without being overtly cloying.

If you want a lighter breakfast, you can order the popular Kaya + Butter Croissant (RM5.90)

The basic version of Hainan Roti Bakar with Butter + Kaya (RM1.90) which I tried in Bentong is decent.

Now that I have the lux version, I would opt for the Cheese + Ham + Egg Croissant anytime.

What’s the best time to go for breakfast?

Thong Kee Cafe at Sea Park is always packed during breakfast and lunch hours. To beat the breakfast crowds, it’s best to get there before 9.00 am.

If you’re like me and want to eat quickly without waiting for my food, you just need to set your alarm early.

Thong Kee is definitely a place that I wouldn’t mind waking up early for breakfast. Although the restaurant was crowded, service was fast and efficient. We got out food as they roll out after 10 minutes.

Where to park at if you want to eat at Thong Kee Cafe Sea Park?

Getting a car park near the kopitiam is difficult at best. If you are late, you have to be prepared to share tables or wait for one.

Which outlet to go for?

My vote is the original Thong Kee Kopitiam in Bentong. Yes, I like the ambience in the coffee shop.
There are currently 5 outlets under the Thong Kee brand. The Sea Park which I tried is the most popular.

As for me, I will definitely make another trip to Sea Park to try the donuts, half boiled eggs and the breakfast sets. If I can still eat after that, I’ll try the other noodle stalls.
