A favorite weekend activity for Penangites is “hunting” down fresh seafood. That’s the time the island dwellers will brave the traffic and head out to the seafood restaurants situated in Bukit Tambun (23.5 km) or Batu Kawan via the second bridge (23.8 km).

Now for a delicious, fresh and affordable seafood dinner, halve the distance and head to Ixora Hotel Prai (11.5 km) instead.


Ixora Hotel Prai is located next to Megamall Penang and is a mere 5 minutes’ drive as you exit from Penang Bridge.

The Saturday Seafood & BBQ Buffet Dinner is priced at RM78 net per person. Seniors and children pay RM48 net per person.



The Lounge has comfortable sofas and TV with sports channel tuned ready. It looks like a perfect spot to chill; have a couple drinks and hang out with some buddies. We keep the Premier League scores and schedules in mind and drive over to Ixora Hotel Perai.


The main courses on the buffet line-up include some seriously delicious carbs; Steamed Fragrant Oil Rice, Fried Dumpling Noodles with Big Prawns and Potato Gratin. Braised Vegetable with Scallop & Mushroom, Stewed Duck


Ixora Hotel Prai has two of my absolute favorite ingredients for an awesome salad, Fresh Avocado, and Feta Cheese.

I remember making this simple summer salad with just juicy cherry, crunchy cucumber and creamy avocado topped with some salty feta tossed with vinaigrette and some oil from the marinated feta cheese which turns it into something extraordinarily delicious!

A vegan version of this can be made with tomato, cucumber, avocado and kalamata olives instead of feta cheese.

I wished I made this for my starters from the buffet line. Beautiful and satisfying.

I had this instead. Got sidetracked by the plump prawns!

Check out the buffet line’s appetizers with beef salami, chicken sliced, smoked salmon, potato salad, mixed fruit salad, marinated cute Japanese baby octopus.

There’s a nice selection of sauces to go with your salad.

The Vietnamese scallops are yellow and quite distinct.


The delectable array features shellfish galore, oysters, prawns, mussels, scallops.

All the shellfish are big, juicy and succulent. I had several plump boiled prawns with garlic mayo. Just perfect.


Ixora Hotel Prai serves Slipper Lobster, flower crab, bamboo clams, chicken thigh, beef, lamb, salmon, and sausages.

There are three flavourful sauces to make your BBQ sing. Mint sauce for the lamb. Rosemary sauce for Chicken.  Black Pepper Sauce for the Beef.

But then I always say this, “You’re the BOSS of your BBQ sauce.”

This means to say, you decided if you want to mix all three, go for ketchup or none at all.

I was so lucky to have Executive Chef Beh and Chef Ong cook my BBQ for me.


Ixora Hotel Prai’a star dessert has to the Matcha Green Tea with White Chocolate Fountain which sends all green tea lovers into ecstasy.  There’s a bowl of iced water to “harden” the coated fruit and marshmallow skewers. The thicker consistency of the white chocolate coats the surface of the condiments beautifully.

The desserts available are Cream Puff, Fruits Tartlet, Cream Brule, Cream Caramel, Panna Cotta, Tiramisu Cake and Mix Tropical Fresh Fruits.

There’s also herbal jelly (Gui Ling Gao) which is cooling for body.
