What to Expect?
You are greeted by a beautiful garden setting with many tall trees as you enter the Cicada Market. The general ambiance is well lit with sparkling decorations. There is a food court in the center. A well-planned walkway has street stalls on both sides. There are other small buildings housing shopping outlets and eateries. At one of the night market, there is an amphitheater venue for live performances and art exhibitions.
The area has one of the best hygiene encountered in a night market. The atmosphere is very relaxed with comfortable wide walking space. We could walk freely without feeling hemmed in.
You will love this if Chatuchak Weekend Market in Bangkok is not your cup of Chā ชา!
Night Market Layout
We found the Cicada Market’s food area and stalls are the cleanest, well laid out and a pleasure to browse. There are four sections or venues to Cicada Market. Art A La Mode, Cicada Art Factory, Amphitheatre and Cicada Cuisine.
What to Buy Art A La Mode?
Art A La Mode is a place for young Thai entrepreneurs, artists, and students to gather to showcase their products. Art and craft vendors have their stalls on both sides of the walkway.
The common theme is art and crafts. Some of the vendors may be professionals or even amateurs in the various fields of the arts. There are fashion clothing, handmade bags, accessories, trinkets. There are many handmade decorative items sold in the in open-style stalls. Some stalls sell crafts, souvenirs, paper products and even pre-loved items.
Most of the vendors here are young people from art colleges. There are local vendors and some from vendors from Bangkok. The community is one of the artists supporting artists with the help of the local community and tourists.
Some of the young people we spoke to are designers who make a little extra income over the weekend. Young Thai entrepreneurs are very creative in their display and choice of attractive products. They sell their creations and some other items bought from the bigger wholesale markets. The design here appears more unique. Some items are simply irresistible and very cute or even practical. Prices are decent, sellers are friendly and nice.
You will find T-Shirts with unique graphic designs. Bedazzled iPhone cases. We bought interesting and quirky trinkets, pretty bracelets, cute earrings and quite a lot of the crochet animal fridge magnets!

You might want to skip the seafood if you’re on a budget and head to the Tamarind Market next door for local style food. We ordered Pad Thai, Som Tam (Thai papaya salad), Fried Mussels Thai Style and Thai Style Grilled Pork for our dinner. We ordered the must-have dessert, Thai mango sticky rice.
